Well, I spoke with the Landstar recruiter yesterday and she told me to go ahead and send in my application. If everything goes through, I would have to get my Hazmat back BEFORE I go to orientation. We will fill it out tomorrow, send it in, and keep our fingers crossed.

Do you have this planned? How much experience do you have? What is your goal if you go into business for yourself? Who is going to help you and what part will they play in your company? The bottom line is that you won't make anymore money normally as an Owner Operator than a good company driver makes. I'm not discouraging you just adding food for thought. After all America was built on the American dream.

I suppose you want to starve if you're going to haul for CH Robinson or one of the other discount brokerages. Depending on a broker for YOUR paycheck is at best in most cases a game of Russian Roulette.

Uh...I already am my own Business, I bought my truck 2 months ago. I bought it KNOWING that I won't make much more than a company driver...but I WILL still make more.
With my current carrier, it is a game of Russian Roulette..not to mention, I am not running to 100% efficiency and it is no fault of my own.

The reason I asked about starting your business was because of your post. Trucks do not a business make LOL Sorry about the miscommunication on my part. I understand that but I sure wouldn't have much to do with CH Robinson, for years they have had the rep as one of the cheapest brokers to haul for, but hey that's up to you. I hope it works out for you. Good Luck!

I agree with Night. If there were a "brokers report" forum such as this one is for truckers, CH Robbingsome would be the JB Hunt of that board. Sure they have a few "gem" loads hidden away, but until you have kissed 23 different butts every way from sunday, you will never see them.

Well I sent off my app to Landstar. We will see what happens. Option B (own authority) is still on the table if I don't get accepted. Lightning Transportation also offered me to lease on with them so I am not totally without a solution.

What did you do? Dig this out of the weeds to promote your Real Time Freight wannabe board?
