Here's what my ideal job would look like: Out anywhere from 2 - 7 days, home for a full day (perhaps a 34 reset?), with pay at 40k+/yr net, and health/dental/vision benefits (durn kids are expensive!) that don't cost an arm and a leg each paycheck! Hopefully that's not a pipe dream.
The girls up front seem to be really pushing the oilfields right now, but my wife said she'd rather I be out a few days at a time rather than come home, go straight to bed, then straight to work as soon as I wake up.
I have no preference on whether it's van, reefer, tanker, flatbed, etc., so long as I'm driving. I've only hauled reefer and tanker (hazmat, bulk and liquid), but would definitely be willing to learn anything else.
    You got that right.. :biggrin_2556:

I don't think you are looking for the impossible. You may have to settle for something a little less appetizing at first then move into a position like you described. You never do know though. I fell into this position with 3 weeks OTR experience. lol True story there. The oil fields are very enticing I must agree but I found through my own research that it just wasn't for me. Benefits were a big deal for me as well and I'm very pleased with the benefits we get from Gemini. I've spoken with some of the other fuel haulers who have benefits which made me laugh and cry at the same time. 1000 a month are you F&*@$&G kidding me??!! Guess that would be ok if you didn't need the benefits and your wife carried good insurance.

Well, right now my wife does carry the insurance (good stuff, too), but I'm hoping to be able to replace her income so she can be home with the kids (hence the income I'm looking for -- over $40k.. minimum).
Talked to Schneider today (I'd sent in an app over the weekend) -- they won't even look at me until 10 years have passed since my wreck (Nov. 2008 -- tipped over a pup.. dunno if I'd told yall that before or not). So that got me pretty durn discouraged today. Things gotta look up soon tho (hopefully)! :biggrin_25523:

Ouch that may be a problem at most places. Is it in your dmv report?

Only thing from the accident on my Motor Vehicle Record is the ticket I received with it (for "Erratic lane changes"). The accident is on my DAC record from HireRight, though.
On a side note, that IS the most recent thing on my record.

Some places will be ok with it since it's been over three years. You mentioned some interest in jbs carriers. That is where I first went out of sage. It was a good company for training and to get some time in before going on to a better carrier. I left there because my wife was pregnant and otr just wasn't for me. Overall my experience with jbs was a good one though. That is if you can live off three hundred a week while in training.

300/wk might be rough, but doable if the hometime is right..

No home time while in training at least back then. Training was 8 weeks with them to. I'm not sure for you with the previous experience you have but yeah it was a bear. I bailed in three weeks. My trainer was a real winner and I was close to burying his body somewhere. Lol

You might want to try Prime for training. Going in with a CDL is $500 a week for the first month, then $600 or 12 cpm for all miles when you're over 5000 miles for the week until the end of training. Insurance is BCBS of MO after 180 days.

    Jynxx and leadfoot80 Thank this.

That's where I originally got my CDL back in '07! :D They're a good company IMO, and if I didn't have a family, I'd be back there in a heartbeat.
The only reason I left was because I had been told I'd be home at least every 2-3 weeks at the most, guaranteed. I was with them 5 months and got home 3 times. Had to either get home more often, or find something different. I talked to my FM about it, he said he'd get me home (which he did), then after that another month went by before I said enough was enough. :)
