I see this sometimes on loads. Does it mean for a certain number of days, weeks, or just carrying that load from point A to point B? Do you charge more money in the rate for "exclusive use"?
what does exclusive use mean?

Means shipper's only freight on the trailer.
-
to simplify further. say you pick up a load that only takes up 20 feet of trailer and you 28 feet left. many times you will try to a partial load to go with it , also called ltl(less than truckload) , but when a shipper with the first load states it is exclusive use, he wants no other freight to go on trailer with his freight, he wants exclusive use of the trailer.
-
yea and they only want to pay a ltl rate...
JRP Thanks this. -
To add ... they (the shipper) typically doesn't want the carrier (trucker) wasting time and tying up his cargo looking for, waiting for, jacking with other freight to load and unload, causing his to be delayed. And/Or to avoid the potential of his freight being damaged by someone else's freight subsequently loaded on same trailer. So long as they agree to pay truckload rate, this is not an unreasonable request/demand.
Robert Gift and heyns57 Thank this. -
Thank you.

exclusive use = dedicated to that customer.

In the olden days, exclusive use paid extremely well. In 1978, I hauled three loads of V-8s from Flint to Janesville exclusive use, with empty engine racks back to Flint. With that paycheck, I paid cash for a new Chevy Impala.
