I try to strap most units, other than a couple of spots on my Miller trailer where decks slide within one another. There is a aftermarket lasso strap that works with the chain hook for Sun Valley/Miller set ups that I need to look into.
I dropped a '06 Grand Marquis last week & the dealer asked me about chaining it. Guess they have had a couple cars dropped off where the hooks were not in the factory specified location. To be honest, kind of glad that dealer knows the difference.

Jeez .... on an `06 Grand Marquis ?? That would be an easy tie down with chains .... and in the correct holes. Not sayin' you had issues, I'm sayin' that the dealer must have been having some SERIOUS problems with meat-hooks in the wrong spots.

The transit connects are made over seas,Turkey i believe this may be the reason for no chain holes. I picked this load on a while back in the port of Baltimore. 7 units 13'6 on my URS truck. I hate loading those things they are way to tall and just a PITA!
-
Yes, as per my previous post, they're made in Turkey.
And something I should've mentioned on that previous post is that there are holes in the chassis of the Transits but they're NOT reinforced. There're just assembly line POC's .
Nice load by the way, how come you didn't put one on the overhead ? That's a Sterling isn't it ? Oh yeah, never mind. You already answered that when you said you had to run 13-6 -
yes its a POS Sterling lol, when leaving Baltimore theres a 13'6 tunnel on I 95. thats why i split 1&2 deck.Im glad we dont haul these anymore

When i was training we put transits on decks 1 and 2. had to drop the back end right down almost sitting on the frame and chain the back. it was still 14'1. the rear brake light is the tallest part on the them.

Nate, look at cobraboy's picture, the bottom rear deck is slid waaaaaay out.
thats a no-no in ontario, not sure about B.C.?
with decks 1 and 2 split, and the bottom slide out, he is probably 13.6
we are allowed to run 14.1 all day long, so kinda makes up for being only 82ft long. -
True - No over hang front or back in Ont and Que although I think you can get a permit for some overhang but it's costly. In the Maritimes we run with 4' over the front and 3' over the back. Makes putting 4 crew cabs across the top TONS easier. Not sure about the west but I think AB, Sask, and MB can have over hang, not sure how much.

Don't want to run like that in Iowa, that's their favorite carhauler ticket!
The STAA minimums here in the states are 75' bumper to taillights and 3' & 4' front/rear. A few states let ya go a little longer off the back, but at 82' we can go anywhere. Are you saying y'all can go longer than 82' in places up there?
Not necessarily 'allowed' but we run 14' just about anywhere in the Midwest. Even Detroit and Chicago, you just have to know where you're at. 14' 6" is as tall as I care to get, and that's mostly west of Chicago; although I used to leave Framingham, Ma for Sturgis, SD at a touch over 14'2" on a regular basis.
The other thing about running that back deck out on a Cottrell, is it is hell on that back link's lower mount, it's not really designed to carry any weight in transit. With legal overhangs that deck rocks forward and the front arms and cylinder carry all the weight. -
I'll agree with that as well ..... I prefer to rest that deck up on the 3rd hole on the pins (for an old quick loader). That way it's locked steel on steel AND the winch rollers aren't sitting on the tantem hump.Hammer166 Thanks this.
