No, of course not, I'll take your word for it on the age, but I would like to see a dyno on the tricycle.
windsmith Thanks this. -
why would that be so king Q??? from what i can see all of dice1 enchancements to his fuel mileage are of a mechanical nature. he drives slower, runs treated bearings, etc. he has nothing that before this device that directly affects the fuel.
if this device purports to somehow change the physical properties of the fuel , it should still give a gain just from enhanced fuel. and one might even argue a much greater gain should be had , since it is going on a very free rollin aerodynamic truck.
one could say you could reach a saturation of gains by aerodynamic devices, low roll resistance tires etc. , but when the addon is supposed to change the structure of the fuel , shouldnt gains still be available from enhanced fuel??
its sort of like if ya put the device on a brick and a bullet you would expect the bullet to pick up more than the brickHammer166 Thanks this. -
It is actually the opposite. The more efficient you make a truck the less impact each improvement will have on it. That is what makes some of these very high MPG truck claims suspect. You can't add all the 10th's of improvement each change claims and get that total improvement.
About the only thing a high MPG truck is going to prove on anything tested is if it doesn't work. At this stage if it is working any improvement is going to be within the margin of error. -
Sorry Bill, but if the device is causing a more efficient burn, the % gain is going to be the same regardless of what truck it's installed in. We're not talking aerodynamic or friction gains here, this is about lbs/hp*hr. So Skateboard has it right, even Dice should see an improvement.SL3406 Thanks this.

Sorry Hammer, but if you are already burning the diesel at its peak performance you can't get any mor out of it. BBB is correct on this one.
I don't see Dice getting any better out of it.
That is why I say if there is any one else out there that is getting 9+ mpg with a Cat engine I would like to know. Hammer are you getting 9+ mpg?

Ummm Ben, all the improvements dice has made have merely reduced the power required to move his truck down the road, they have done nothing to effect the amount of fuel required to produce that HP. Well I suppose one could claim the FASS improved injection by removing entrained air.
This is just y'all preparing an out if Dice doesn't show an improvement.
And my fuel mileage has nothing to do any of this... but nice try!SL3406 Thanks this. -
My truck is an 09 cascadia w/ a DD13, super 10 spd.
Historically it gets 5.9 mpg.
You call my boss and arrange for this thing to get put on. He's always looking for ways to tweak more mpg.
This truck is supposed to be spec'd to get the best mileage possible.
Best I can average with it is 6.17 w/a a light load.
Last week I averaged 6.07 for the week. -
When I pull my trailer empty, I can get anywhere between 5.8 mpg to 8.9mpg. All depends on how the wind is blowing, the outside temps and so on. Even with running a dedicated lane, going the EXACT same routes and the exact same weight, I was never able to get a average that was consistent from month to month. There are just too many variables to factor in. I have up on worrying about MPG and now worry about my bottom line and my gross income.
Not knocking anyone here, but even with getting 9mpg it will not make you money if you run for .98cpm. You'll make more than the guy hauling the same rate in a 7mpg truck, but you won't come close to matching the income of a guy pulling for $3.00 per mile with a 6mpg truck.MNdriver Thanks this. -
Just 1 bad day (like today with a 45mph headwind for me) will give you an easy loss of 1mpg for the entire trip. That figured into our equation will show a loss, when in fact you might have gained .01 mpg on other days.
