I don't like polishing by any means. I just like how it looks ya know? I mean, check out the differance in the polished sections of the tank in this picture vs. the oxidized white parts.

I hear that some of the metal tanker guys use a mild acid to shine their tanks... does anyone know anything about that? Sounds nasty to me... although if it does work, probably a lot faster than what Pete is doing...
Alhtough, Pete probably wouldnt want acid anywhere near his chrome!

I don't want any type of acid or strong soap anywhere near my aluminum either! I don't know what those guys use, but i wouldn't. Not unless I had some bad oxidized and discolored stuff. Then I would throw some acid on it to make it a good solid color and clean it up, then polish it up.

The "brightener" you get at the blue beacon is just that, an acid. It doesn't shine anything just makes it a bright hazy white. It's the enemy of polished tanks world wide! lol they use that stuff on your paint too so i you have polished aluminum you have to tell them to cover it all up. And then you can still get streaks from water running down it when they remove the covers.

Actually though if it has been awhile since you have polished and you are planing to polish it is worth your while to go ad have it all brightened as it cleans it well and makes the finish uniform.

One time I was half way through a polish when I got a call for a HOT load that had to go now. So I took off with half a polish job. Literally I had a tan half polished, the front half was shiney and the back half was anything but.

Got lots of comments on that one

I would strongly recommend brightening all your alluminum before polishing. It makes it a lot easier.
PS- NBA-wash with no brightener, not even on the paint=No zebra stripes in your polish
