I ran my first loads of oil this week on my own. I had to run down to Corpus Christi the other night and encountered a gully washer on my way back, but I am really enjoying the job and the people I work with.

Anyway, I have my radio tuned into 98.7 here in Victoria and hear all kinds of ads looking for people with CDLs. My grandmother sent me an article that ran in her local paper in Arkansas and it was talking about this Eagle Ford play down here and how it is one of the bigger oil plays in the world right now and how it is only getting bigger.

The jobs are here and the money is good. No need to be unemployed people! Get a CDL or some other trade like welding and get your butt down here and scoop up some $$$$

    I have several people who would sponsor me long enough to get in the cab if I can be sure of this { not to dissuade what you said } and as well have localized on Victoria for the job search as even though Karnes, Dewitt, Lavaca, Fayette, Gonzales seem to be the center of activity but that is rather far away and I cannot bust this with no camper shell working & no place to let me park it behind the trees .... { et cetera }

as much as 7 of 10 applicants are rejected on D.P.S. background, many "background checks" want to know your credit history so they can see if Sue B. Good at the firm of Cuttham, Burnhamm, & Runn wants to sniff your under-shirt area.....

most "online" stuff is totaly bull from scammers, one or two of whom I met on a "live birth cert" scam,.....

If I could get past the bull it would be a one or two day "in-cab ride-along" to find the terminals and get past the 20 dumb questions phase as I can handle the equipment and already have D.O.T. physical in the port-folio where all papers will be kept, current employer will release me at any time on 3-hour notice with hire-back if needed for only no more than finding these things,.....

I have one contact in Midland right now sending classifieds and bill-board numbers but all so far are of the worked in the office variety so if you have any field-office mailing address pm me and I will send them 10- year work history .....

I do not want to "relocate" ~ need to sleep in camper-shell when working and go away when off-duty for several days.......100-% clean D.P.S.

That would depend on the Company....Remember many companies insurance will not let them hire you without 1-2 years experience behind the wheel. I ran into that problem all over Texas 2-3 weeks ago

I'm a native Texan living in Missouri. I'm looking to move back home to Texas if I can find the right position.

Here's what I have to offer:
9 Years OTR experience all with the same company
Last 7 Consecutive years accident free
No tickets of any kind in last 6 years
Certified CDL Instructor in the state of MO
Valid CDL and current DOT Medical
Never failed a drug or alcohol test
No extra endorsements at this time
Former Small Fleet Owner (I sold the business)
Familiar with all DOT and CSA regulations

I'm willing to pay my own relocation.
I'm willing and capable of getting my tanker and hazmat endorsement. Tanker in MO so I can transfer it, but would prefer to wait until I get back to TX to get the Hazmat so I don't have to go thru it twice. I've been studying for both.
I've never pulled a tanker but understand the concept of shifting, cornering and stoppping and have taught the basics.
Experience hauling liquid filled totes (up to 26 in a reefer) on a semi-regular basis.

I'm looking for a driver or instructor or driver supervisor position in the Texas oil patch. Priorities in that order. Open to W TX or S TX whichever would be better with my creditials. I grew up in DFW and spent time in the Rio Grande Valley/SPI.

Additional knowledge includes working in the E TX oil patch in the 80's as an Asset Manager and completion of Petroleum Developement Corporation's Basic Oil and Gas School for Financial Professionals in the 90's. I am also an current active trader in the Oil Futures Market, both as a hedge and speculation. In the 80's, I also worked offshore all over the world, as a Safety Compliance/Documentation Specialist (I followed a Safety Engineer around and photographed everything for compliance with SOP).

Any help in this quest would be greatly appreciated. Since I am new to this site, I'm not sure whether I can receive PM's. Any information about potential employers would be a tremendous help. I have found that drawing on my peer's experience is the best type of research I can conduct. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

If you are an employer, I would appreciate your considerations or advice.

Just curious... with so little experience, what options does one have? I ask this because your profile says 0-1 year expereince. I'm new to this board and to the oil patch, although I have 9 years OTR driving expereince. I would appreciate your insight and help.

Lima... You said in an earlier post that due to the drought, things had slowed down a little bit. How are they now? Is Stallion still hiring? I'm new to this board and looking for some insight. So far, you have given some of the best updates I've seen. I live in MO, but am a 6th generation Native TEXAN looking to get back home. BTW, Happy belated San Jacinto Day!

I've got 9 years OTR experience (all reefer) looking to get in the oil patch. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Matt... Can't PM you... I'm too new. Posted tonight. I would appreciate your help. I've read most of your posts about your company and like what you have to say about them. I would appreciate you taking a look at my profile post and see if you could help me in my quest. Its under Jonben on about page 140+. Not sure of the page but its way up there.

    Thanks...

I'll say this... just finished 9 years with the one and only trucking company I have ever worked for. A lot of guys didn't like them and had bad experiences. Even though my leaving was premature to my liking, (a falling out), I still have nothing bad to say about that company. You get out of it what you put into it. Schneider might be a good fit for you, but it might not. Its ultimately YOUR decision. You decide if its a good fit for you, your family and your own personal goals.

A heads up though... you may have to undergo a second background check and all that entails and pay for it again. Until the fed regs go into place to make them uniform under CSA, HAZMATS won't necessarily transfer from state to state. Just be prepared... it may not be as easy as "just breezing through the test".

If you are not adverse to south or west Texas and driving off road and all that entails, your experience should get you a driving job fairly quickly. South TX seems to want more experience due, I believe, to increased amount of traffic.

Others have went to work in that area hauling crude out of school with more training provided by the company.(Schneider for one) Sunoco has ads for crude haulers. Dillon Transport always running ads. I have no personal experience with any of those 3 outfits.

    I went to work for Nabors in west TX shortly after CDL school with no previous experience at hauling water and very little 18 wheeler experience. The oilfield services companies usually seem to be in need of drivers. Hauling water, driving winch truck, moving rigs, etc;

Housing in some areas could be in real short supply. Depends on where you want to go.

Wingnut... 10 years ago when I was thinking about getting into the trucking industry, I went to every truck stop within 90 miles of DFW and talked to drivers about their companies. A truck driver will talk to just about anybody, especially if they are talking about the company they work for. Buy them a cup of coffee and they'll talk your ear off. Get one of those 5 subject spiral notebooks and a good Zebra with an extra ink cartridge and start taking notes! Make sure you ask them about the good, the bad and the ugly! And get NAMES! Their name and hiring names. I'd start at the Petro in Weatherford, TA in Denton, TA in Terrell and then venture out a little further. Its going to depend on the daily drive you want. You, like me, live in a distant area to the patch. Although I am currently in MO, my permenant residence is in Mesquite. To the east, Tyler is the edge. To the west, FW is the edge. S is Cleburne and N is Denton or there about. Take your pick and your medicine. Go find drivers in patch trucks and talk to them. That's what I did and was successful. I recently sold my small fleet (33 trucks) and am looking to head back to Texas. Who knows, I may run into you someplace.

I've been reading about the short supply of housing. That is why I'm leaning toward S TX instead of W TX. How do you like Nabors? Care to give me some insight into them. I know they are state wide.
