ok, if possible , get your CDL throgh a comm college. generally longer training and cheaper to boot. You would come away with more seat time before hitting the road. If need be , private school out of pocket. DO NOT under any circumstance hire into a company that will lock you into a 2 year contract while they train you to get your CDL. You will likely end up owing money to them when they find a BS excuse to fire you OR starve you for miles once running.

Whatever company you decide on ( RESEARCH!!!!) figure out what YOUR needs/wants are from a company and go with whoever but meets those needs/wants. Anything else is a crapshoot.

    Good luck.

    gentleroger Thanks this.

Well I talked to another driver over here who just relayed a load here that goes up to Canada. Would be perfect if I could relay of up to the Portland OC so I gave support shift a call and told them about it. After a couple minutes on hold while he looked up loads here he got me one going up to Eugene OR. I have no info on it yet so I don't know the appointment times. I've got 06:04 left to drive and 06:40 left on my 14. I might be getting some decent miles this week.

Hey...they helped me get home. :biggrin_2559: They being support shift.

First attempt involved a load going 900 miles, the wrong way.

Second attempt involved a load that got me closer. But due too scheduling, would have put me home late saturday night. I was due home wednesday.

Third attempt, dropped attempt number 2 in drop yard. Then required 7 hours to load. Even though WF said an hour. Ran out of hours, hour and 1/2 after getting there.

Thanks, mickeyrat68. I need to do a school here in my area to make things work (DFW TX), and so far I don't see a CC option. The ones here don't appear on the PDTI list, which is a bit of a disappointment but there appear to be some OK ones sprinkled among the cheesy ("We have the actual DOT questions!") and the Indentured Servitude Set (it was a look at Stevens Transport that started what has now been three marathon days of reading online about all things to do with CDL and the line of work.

Needless to say, it took Very little time to see the truth about the exploitation industry that exists for new drivers who sign their lives away to get into the business. Not least to forums (that wish they could be) like this one.

    Regards,

    ST

Not sure. I'll let you know when I finish my remedial.

I'm getting lessons in how to measure the height of cable TV wires from the drivers seat.

I'm sure this is going to be fun. I'm sure lesson one will not be covering why you can go under the same wire twice, yet rip it down on your third pass.

Well I was happy because I got a load headed up north near home and I didn't have to sit at the French camp OC all weekend..... Until I got the load on workflow. It delivers to Eugene OR, 543 miles away..... but the live unload appointment is at 0530 on the 24th :biggrin_25510:. I'm currently 441 miles from it and can easily be there 21:30 on the 21st.... About 100 miles from the Portland OC, which is where I'm out of.... They are closed on the weekends so no chance of dropping it (I'll call tomorrow morning just to be sure.... I can make it up to the Portland OC but doubt they will let me relay it and drop it up there as its 100 miles past the delivery location. Maybe there's a driver who needs a 34 hour restart and I can relay it to a truck stop or something.

Most likely I'll be sitting for 2 days. :biggrin_25510:
