hey guys, well after going through 2 dispatchers i am now left with an ultimatum. i have a friend to team with as a company driver, or i could train. the problem that i had with first dispatcher is starting now again with the second one. MILES!!!! i have not seen more than 2600 miles with prime in a week... and i only saw that much once in a three month time frame. my current dispatcher tells me that i should train, i dont have a problem with training and think it could be fun and rewarding to teach someone how to do the job.
i have always been getting great fuel mileage, currently t 8.3 and never had accidents or service failures...the problem that i had was HOS violation a few times. i am wanting to hear from company drivers who train or company team drivers to see if i can expect some better pay and what is the best way to do so, train or team. i am gone away from home far to much to continue only getting 2200 miles a week and seeing that less than 800 pay check...
i really don't want the responsibility of leasing but that may have to be my next option...glad they have a walk away lease because i know some lease drivers with prime in really tight situations...barely seeing 1000$/wk... thanks guys, be safe and as always thanks for the info in advance.
thinking of training

How long have you been driving?
aiwiron Thanks this. -
i have been driving now for 8 months

First let me say, I'm not being dismissive of you.
8 months is not very long. If you were to think about jumping to another carrier, your level of inexperience would work against you. I ran the company side for 3 years. In that time I averaged about 2500 miles per week as a solo driver. That is what you can expect. At 8 months you probably haven't received more than the initial mileage boost on your pay. It takes awhile to build-up a per-mile rate that is going to get you larger checks. You're not going to become a millionaire overnight in this business.
As far as training is concerned... why? What do you have to offer someone who is hungry to learn - or are you really looking for a truck slave?
You have one winter behind you. A warm one at that. How much foul-weather driving have you done? Have you run all of the major passes in icy, snow-packed, windy weather? Have you ever chained-up for real and run a pass like that? Can you explain how to log a split-sleeper berth break, and why you'd use one? Honestly, if you were my trainer with 8-months experience, I'd feel cheated - and I'd wonder why I had bothered to get involved with Prime.
If I were to recommend anything to you it would be to team - if you can find someone. Get some real experience before you try to pass yourself off as someone with the gravitas to be a trainer. You'll be doing everyone, including yourself, a favor.
BTW... if you don't like this answer, find U2_exit and ask him about it. He's been training for 2 or 3 years now. -
You should go flatbed
