I never said I was going there. I should have worded it differently as I was directing the question to Smaggs seeing how he wasn't getting much home time.

Hey Smaggs, just found this site and read this entire thread. I' am looking to start Squire in June and of all the ups and downs you have had, would you still recommend them for newbies? I really don't want to go to Swift or Werner. Met with a guy named Boyd and he said there school is 3 weeks long and I would be getting paid 300.00 a week while in school and then 400.00 a week while with a trainer. Got to start somewhere!

Smaggs works on the refer side. Boyd is a recruiter for the dry van side. IMO two total different companies and worlds apart.

Boyd, just tell him you are interested in the refer side. I'm not real sure but I think the school is the same anyways. Good luck.

FYI, I have two friends on the refer side and I get way more miles than they do plus I spend less time with the loads, more liability with refer than dry van.

So starting out van would be better than refer?

Probable more simplified to haul van. Less trailer maintenance, no worries about temps, etc.

    xlsdraw Thanks this.

That idea has always made sense to me. But then I have never done it. :)
