    Here's a moldy oldie.....

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Heathkit-Tu...pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item43af1763fd

Thought I'd post this interesting piece....it's an old Heathkit GW-10 CB radio. 12 volt powered, 23 channels, vacuum tubes and all. An interesting piece. I guess this is what mobile CB radios looked like in the mid 1960's.

Just think WA4GCH was on the air when that radio was being used in it's early days. And he could have talked to the owner. And I started 2 years after that license expired.

I think you should look into getting that cleaned up and serviced. If it's crystal variable,I'm sure you can swap out the crystals.

    :biggrin_2556: What ?

There were kits for 6 and 10 meters such as the HW-29 and HW-30....
I modded a few CB radios for both 6 and 10 meters but it was NOT worth the time even then ....The HE-15 was the same as a Lincoln you could rewind a HE-15 coils and put it on 6 AM (or find a HE-35) ... I did they to several of them.
The SWAN/SILTRONIX 1011 was a low end radio ment to fill the freebander market the SWAN 250 ( AKA TOO DRIFTY ) was 6 only they also made transverters to go on 2 meters with the 250 and some were modded to work with 1011's ... a Swan transverter for 2 meters in on the left in the 1970 photo .....

As for novice licenses they were only good for ONE YEAR and not renewable crystal control and 75 watts CW only I never used mine because of school and had to go get my tech ticket to stay licensed .....

Hey Bruce...I have to ask, in the 60's, when C.B. required a license, were the licenses always good for a 5 year period?

If so I have to wonder if that radio I posted could have been built as early as 1961....?
