I am new and going to CRST school next week. Starting a new career at 65! Been taking the online tests and studying two State CDL books (Va and Md) and reading what truckers are saying on these boards so I have a clue as to what to expect. My question is regarding finding a company that hires solo drivers to drive their rigs? Are there any such companies?
Question-Are there any companies that hire drivers to drive their rigs solo?

most have you go solo. once your done with training.

CRST is mainly teams, although they do have a very few solo drivers.
Swift also offers training, and most of us are solo. -
Yeah I know CRST is mostly team and I don't expect many companies would hire a solo unless you have at least 6 months in. Either way I am looking forward to hitting the road. Burnt out on 40 yrs of construction!--lol!

Hi SDaniel. Not sure yet how to PM from this site but I will figure it out. Don't know how to find Epes either--lol! I will be in touch.

Yes, CRST seems to really be hung up on the team thing. Most other starter companies will and/or can have you go solo.
I was less than impressed with CRST when they came in recruiting at my school, but regardless, I wish you luck! -
Hi again SDaniel!-- I can't PM you until I have 7 posts!! This is post 4 so I will have to wait or babble out a couple more posts!--Ha! --I never heard of that kind of rule!--lol! I dunno what happens if you PM me and I am not sure yet where to look if you do! Rules--rules and more rules!

Female- CRST is a biz and they obviously have their biz set up to maximize profits via the team approach. Never having driven or been in a big rig I am an absolute rookie but I know about biz having been self employed for over 30 yrs. I will report back as to my impressions once I get started.

A STARTER company biz. Yes, they're all into making a buck, and the starter companies are really into bending us newbies over and giving us a pounding in order to make their buck. It just seemed that CRST wanted to not only bend us over for our pounding, but to pay us less than the workin' gal's wages for doing so, all the while without using protection.
All of us in my school were less than impressed with what the recruiters had to say, and usually the recruiters do a dang good job blowing smoke up our behinds.
