When I was with Stevens, I caught the flu while in Memphis. Told dispatch and they told me to park it and get back with them when I felt safe to drive. Though while I was waylaid by the flu, they did have me repower a load, give my empty up and sit on the loaded trailer until a driver who was unloading in memphis in several hours could come and take over the loaded trailer.

 

LOL...I ate at the Petro. breakfast buffet. I now eat a better diet. seldom in truckstops.

 

AAAhhhhh the good ol' botulism buffet! I personally would have gotten a hotel room.

What does it mean when the term "repower a load is used"?

When I was with CRST, one of my co-drivers caught a cold. He acted like he was dying. When he claimed he could not drive, the FM told him he wasn't allowed to drive until he had a doctor's note clearing him. He went to a clinic and got a prescription for cough syrup with codeine. FM had me drop him off at the nearest terminal. That was one of the happiest days of my career

 

Exactly. Since CSA was implemented, there is no benefit to ignoring FMCSR. Those laws are not only there to protect others on the road but you as well. I'm not saying I support every one of those laws, but some are common sense, and give you the power to tell your company to shove it when they ask you to drive unsafe. Companies these days tend to care more about the load than the safety and well being of their driver. This is a sad reality in the trucking industry. DO NOT (I greatly emphasize this) UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES LET A COMPANY TALK YOU INTO DRIVING ILLEGAL OR UNSAFE.

If they threaten you with your employment, oh well. Why work for a company who would sacrifice you to cover their own butts? I've been there, done that, got the T-shirt.

At the end of the day, you and only you are responsible for your health and well-being while on the road. You have to make the choices that keep you safe and healthy so you can go home to your family when it's all said and done.

 

As far as caring only about the load. Lol that is the way it HAS ALWAYS been

 

a "repowered load" is a load that you are assigned will not be delivered by you, but reassigned to another driver, for whatever reason. ie.

You are assigned a load, you get sick and need some down time. Load is the reassigned to another driver who will switch trailers with you. since your truck is the "power unit" that is why it is called a "repower"
