Switching from 9 speed to 10 speed.

    Hi everyone, this may be a stupid question and may not be in the right section, sorry I'm new here. I have been driving for about a year now and have only used 9 speed transmissions, well except for training which was in a 13 speed. I'm switching to a new company soon and they use Eaton Fuller 10 speeds in their trucks. I get the basic idea, 1/6 is where Low would be on a 9 speed. But is there anything special I should know when transitioning? Do I shift at a lower/higher RPM? Any advice would be appreciated. I didn't think I'd encounter a 10 speed in a newer truck because my old company said they where being phased out of new trucks. Apparently they were lying or were misinformed.

    Shift at the same RPM as a 9 speed...*maybe* 50 RPM less, but the steps are so similar between the two transmissions that it's barely noticeable. You'll do just fine.

    Drive it just like your 9 speed and use 6th when you need to. It's common to skip 6th in a 10 speed because of where it is, but it's there if you need it.

    The only thing you have to remember is to hit 6th gear instead of jumping from 5th to 7th or from 7th to 5th. Other than that, drive it the same way.

    Let me explain the 10 speed in a nut shell: It shifts much faster and smoother than a 9 speed. You can shift at higher RPM's and float with the 10 speed, where as the 9 speed if you shift at a higher RPM and try to pull out you usually have to use the clutch. It is a delight to drive, I can go from 1-6 in 5 seconds, try that with a 9 speed. There is a video posted showing me shifting a 9 speed, if you don't wait for the RPM's to drop when shifting, it grinds.
