I would personally do the waterbottle work... Either that or go sand :). Sure they are a lot of hours, but you get paid whether you are working or not. If it is easy for you to keep entertained and not to bored go ahead and get into the oil field services. If you don't think you can handle it go ahead and go OTR.

I personally didn't mind OTR when I ran for a year, but I was with a crappy company with crappy pay and I wasn't home as much as I would have liked. Right now I'm just running a local dry can but I'm in the process or looking to see what is out there for water and sand. There are a lot of wells going in around my place and about all the water companies are looking for drivers. If I don't see the green I want, I move on :).

If you can handle the move, your wallet will do much better (usually) in ND.

the ND jobs are also having housing issues.

It's to the point now also, that local communities are fighting against the travel trailer surge for living in.

Watford City council is trying to ban them outside an RV park and the local businesses are pissed about it.

And the city won't approve new building permits for housing or apartments.

I've heard this too. The oil boom has caused quite an increase in rentals and decrease in rental availability; I hear rent has also sky-rocketed astronomically! Forget trucking, I wish I had jumped on ND real estate before the boom...

    MNdriver Thanks this.

It's because of the housing I sat down and realized I could do just as well regional and be home more for less cost.

I get a place to live and some one else's dime to live on pretty much other than food while gone for work.

Putting a lot more money into savings that way.

I think most of those places up in ND are wanting exp drivers, that place along with TX got over filled with students, and for whatever reason they are wanting more and more exp drivers, i bet students just didn't cut it, or cost to much time and money to train. OTR always needs students to take advantage of. I'm in the same boat, trying to decide where to go.
