don't be a hero, your company will fire you if you are doing something that you are not TRAINED to do, I know it looks easy, but if you would have gotten hurt bad, that would have been grounds to fire you. They didn't hire a mechanic, they hired a driver, and that would be their arguement.
I know it sucks waiting, but if road service takes that long, than they will just have to put you in a hotel when you run out of hours. and don't run a second book for them either, you could end up driving back to the terminal for the last time the first time you try that.

Although both times I knew what was wrong with the truck, from a mechanics class I took back in highschool I didnt touch the truck, even in our yard if its a quick fix I can do I always bring it to the mechanic, not because Im lazy but because thats the rules and I dont want to get into trouble -

I'll say from my stand point if it's something I can fix I sure as heck ain't waiting on roadside. And there's been quite a few.

Wendsday:
Got a longggg run last night, Took a load to the burlington terminal, grabed an empty, took it all the way to Bristol, VA. Get there at 1am, gates locked and the key isnt were it was suposed to be. They paid me to sit there for 3hrs 30 min while they figured out what to do, they even had me go to Walmart and buy bolt cutters to cut the lock off, which didnt work either, did more damage to the bolt cutters then the lock.
All that only to find out it was a stupid Combo lock (combo thing on the bottom of a small skinny lock, looked like a key lock and since no one said anything about a code, just that there was a key somewhere i never even though to look at the bottom of it.
Got outta there at 3:45am made it back to Charlote at 7:15am, spent until 9:30 unloading the trailer i brought back....Total Hours on Duty 16...WTF!
This sheets going down hill fast.....
