You will hate driving 10/11 hours at 55 mph in a freightliner.

I just got my CDL, and I am also considering Prime. The company seems to be a good fit for me from what I've been reading. I'm not interested in doing any 'job hopping', so I want my first choice to be a good enough company to stay with for quite some time.

There are lots of threads with stories of students being sent home by Prime's MD for minor issues, so I discussed that with Prime's recruiter. The recruiter immediately sent me a form outlining the job duties, and said that if my MD would use the form to certify that I was fit to perform the duties listed, there would be no problems with Prime's MD.

I thought the idea was to maximize miles while learning so the 30/40K mileage limit will be out of the way and you can upgrade when you're ready?

I personally would probably prefer a L/O to train with, as I'm interested in learning more about the leasing side. I'm planning to go company for the first year, or at least until the slower winter freight season is over.

His company trainer left a bad taste in his mouth. If I said, go w/ a company trainer, because they'll be going for miles not revenue. I'd back it up like this: Given the choice, a L/O is gonna take a 1k mile run that pays $2200 over the 1500 mile run that only pays $1800. And I'd be right. And so would the L/O, it's HIS business. And btw, that $$ you get as a trainee w/ a L/O? It comes out of HIS settlement.

JohnCooper's experiences were not the norm. I do know of trainees that have called the FM and said that they weren't getting to a bathroom or shower and said trainer was told to park their ### at a TS for shower time and park the truck at WM so the trainee could shop.

That is a matter of personal preference. If you are 6'5" it doesn't matter what speed you are going, a Peterbuilt is gonna suck. My JCW could barely stand up in the sleeper of the one he looked at, and he's only 5'8". The KW orders have stopped, if you are going with Prime, chances are, you will get a FL.

Was that "your" doc or Primes doc? Since I am still not even sure my job is going away, I am not going to call a recruiter but would still like to see what that form has on it.

I used to do that all the time when I was in the Army in Colorado Springs and would drive to Dallas for a 3 or 4 day weekend to see family. The speed limit was 55 at that time.

I don't believe that I'd be needing to call the FM. If the trainer won't make a quick stop near a TS or WM, then I'll just do it while he's taking his 10 in the sleeper. HE can call the FM and complain about it if he want's but I don't think that would happen.

It's basically a Prime driver's job description with places for the MD to sign each page.
