1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

If you have type 2 diabetes treatable with pills not insuline, will most companies hire you or reject you?

As long as it is controled and you can pass a dot physical there should be no problem getting hired on.

As long as the diabetes is treated with oral drugs and not insulin there are no problems. However, a company may require additional contact with doctors or paperwork. You may need to see a doctor more frequently.

Thanks. Is it the same with high blood pressure, and cholesteral too if treated with pills and under control? I would imagine it is, but I've been out of trucking for several years and developed these things and wanted to make sure I can get back into trucking.
    Thanks.

It's pretty much the same. You will get a one year card instead of a two year. It's no problem as long as you keep it under control.

The DOT is really strict on both of these touchy subjects.u have 2 be VERY CAUTIOUS.Some companies will tell you "Oh yeah will hire u just come on in to orientation and we will get u squared away NO PROBLEM".BUT what the fail 2 tell u is when the company does its homework on u they will shove u out the door in a 2nd.SO make no mistake about it the RECRUITER will PROMISE u the WORLD and tell u "yeah don't worry about it lets get u signed up.Then they find some crafty way 2 get rid of u once u r there.U can STILL pass a DOT physical with the above mentioned illnesses and the company can STILL tell u 2 hit the road!!!! VERY UNETHICAL and VERY UNFAIR but that is how alot of these companies operate!! sad but IT IS WHAT IT IS!! and please believe that I am not trying 2 discourage u in anyway I would just hate it if u spend all this time and energy and have these shaddy companies promise u the world and when u get there after spending your OWN money that u will NEVER be reimbursed for. I wish u the BEST OF LUCK

If you have been seeing a Doctor on a regular basis and have your numbers under control you should not have much problem. When you go in for your physical have a print out of your latest A1C. If I am not mistaken DOT requires it to be below 8.0. As far as the blood pressure goes it must be below 140/90. Also have the list of all your medications when you go in for your physical it will make it easier when you fill out your long form and medical card:yes2557:. Sorry if you already knew all of this but might help others. As far as signing you up just to send you home, well there are companies out there that pull this kind of stuff. :biggrin_2552: Best of luck.
