I super excited, I will be starting school on Monday at CDL of GA. I haven't decided on a company yet. :biggrin_255:

Mostly looking for one that has great benefits, good pay, great loads, and will not make me take home-time.

I will update this as I go along! If anyone would like to tell me about their trucking experience I would be happy :biggrin_25525: to hear it!

    Welcome to the forum!

I don't think you will have a problem finding a company that will keep you out for long periods of time. Sounds like you are in a good position to be an over the road driver. You can make really good money if you are willing to stay out for long periods of time. Take it one step at a time though. Its going to take you a little bit to get used to things out there. It really is nice though if you don't have to go home. You can pretty much pick anywhere in the country to take your time off, whether it be at the beach in San diego or at a ski lodge in Utah or you can pull it in the campground at the meteor crater park and stay a few days gazing into a giant hole!

I used to love going over Donners Pass and pulling in the rest stop up there. The Sierra Nevada Trail goes right through there and I would take my dog and go hiking for hours! Loved doing things like that. You can pack your fishing pole and go fishing too!

Enjoy your adventure man! Maybe keep us all updated as to how things progress.

    Good luck!

Nice to hear, I drove for almost 20 years now and I just started to join a trucking forum and you're new and started participating so it's a fresh start for you.

NewCentury, its at the top. Pull in the westbound rest stop and you will see the signs for the trail. The trail and scenery is incredible! I'm from Florida so its quite a change of landscape! I highly recommend it if you have never done it! Good exercise too!

I was once excited. But then I found that trucking isn't the best job in the world, and I only stay in it, as my retirement nears, so why leave now?

I wish you the best, but keep your eyes wide open, not shut to the stupidity of the industry that you will most certainly encounter, and THAT STARTS while you are in school..!!

In due time, you will end up like many of us, happy to be looking towards retirement, or finding a better way to make a living, which does not include driving.
