i have been looking over this site and others and have seen a trend that i don't know the answer to.
1- why do drivers stay out for weeks at a time and then they are happy to get 1 day off for every week out?
i work 15 on and 6 off rotation.
2- why do people still say there is a driver shortage?
imo there is no driver shortage, just a shortage of companies that pay drivers a decent wage.
3- why is it that when you ask a question from 10 different people, you'll get 12 different answers?
all i can think off is super truckers like to rack up posts and think they are smarter than they are.
4- why do people ask what so and so company is like to work for?
you know that your going to get the good and bad from every one, no company is all good or all bad in everyones books. if asking questions ask more direct questions and not so broad ones like what lanes are the most common, is the pay ever late, is the mileage short all the time, etc. that way you will see if it fits what you want.
Why?

That's too many questions for a Friday - now smarten up !
I'll think about it over the weekend and give a 12 answers Monday !
-
I got nothing.....
-
lmao, your right it is friday. on days off so didnt realize what day it is.
-
In some cases, it's because some people are go-getters and want to make as much money as they can in as short a period as possible so they want to work as many days as they can. Others are content to take more days off and make less money. Neither mindset is wrong, just different personalities.
Because drivers count everyone with a CDL as an available driver, employers only count the ones worth hiring and there isn't enough of those ones to fill all the available seats.
Because, unless it's a math question, the answer will be an opinion and everyone has a different one and some people have multiple opinions on a given topic. Also, often the question is too vague and, depending on the undisclosed details, the answer will change.
I often wonder that myself. -
i live where i want to live (in the middle of nowhere) ANY highway job with ANY company would require me to slipseat if i took more than 6 days off after a month and half out...just plain logistics...but then i didnt work May-Oct so Id get a different truck anyways
im not highway anymore, i got in with this company (mining) last summer when they were desperate, just 3 mos prior they were requiring 3-5yrs exp (which i didnt have)...and nowhere in the ad did it say housing was provided, so wouldnt have even looked...MOST oil jobs ive looked at require you to live nearby, thats not an option for me, i will not move.
im not aware of any drivers saying this
basically
i wouldnt give positive info aboot my work, cuz i dont want any moar drivers, sure we get a couple thousand $ to recruit ppl, but all i have to do is work 4 extra days and make that same $...im 20 and 10, but Nov-Apr, i have no issue working extra days -
Working my schedule I'm making more than when I went full out so why bust your ### for peanuts. Work smarter not harder. As for a shortage i believe that people are tired of being screwed by these companies and are leaving the industry but still holding the license so stats Canada says there are x amount of drivers but people won't Apply so there's a shortage. As for the questions and so many answers, how about the hos rules. They are written in black and white and people still can't get it right, giving out false info every time they speak.

has nothing to do with how many drivers arent driving
most trucking companies whether paying $50/day or $500/day cant find drivers to do the work.Licensed to kill Thanks this. -
I know 10 to 15 people that got out of driving because of lying and cheating companies and still hold a class 1 license. Was told they won't go back until it improves, which it won't and they know that. There are no company's That will pay you any where close to 500 a day
-
of course there are, and they cant get drivers
