I know this is really going to come to a matter of personal opinion, but I need my fiance to be home more often. He wants to be home, to see his kids (he has 10 yr old twins from a previous marriage), but he still wants to be out there - earning, and earning well. We live in Central Florida. So if any of you who are local to the area, and could recommend a good trucking company that is not just a cdl-mill, and treats their employees like family, and not just a number, and actually respects family values.. Also, wondering about which companies have rider policies that would allow me, and our son, to go OTR with him (not all of the time, but once in a while). I would greatly appreciate your help.

They aren't in Florida, they are in Pa., and only hire out of Fla. as needed. Can't hurt to try!The Huntress Thanks this.

Don't take this wrong, but, if the wheels ain't turnin. you ain't makin money.
Unless a local job, starting 8am and done by 5 can be had, some away from home will be required.
Some companies have contracts where the drivers have routes that they run all week, then have weekends off.
If you don't live near to where these types of jobs are available, then pack up and move to where they are, if you want weekends off.
Too many driver's think truck driving is the answer to all their woe's, but don't realize what the job entails.
And that goes for spouses, girl/boy friend's and any other living arrangements, as such. They have to realize what the job requires. No one likes to hear it, but some sacrifices are there for OTR driver's.
The choice to either make money or see the kids is as old as gasoline engines. My father was a driver in the 40's to 60's. He was gone 3-4 weeks at a time and strangely, when i started driving in the early 70's, same thing.
You will just have to support your driver best you can and take the time off as it comes. That is til he can find that one job, where he is home nite's and weekend's.The Huntress Thanks this. -
Thank you both! I did see that post from JohnBoy. I am just a little weary of trusting anything from Craigslist, but I will look further into it. It's worth a shot!
I was just curious if there were any other companies in our region that would fit a similar profile to Calex because they sound like they might be a good fit.
My main thing is that there are so so many companies out there, and by just reading all the info I can find on their websites, they always promise the best to entice you to come to them.
I do appreciate your input, and if anyone else has any other suggestions, please just let me know and I will do my research.
Any input I get from you guys and gals, I take to heart and consider all of the factors before making any decisions.
He should hopefully be home in a few days now though. He just called to say that he's in NC, so at least he's getting closer! lol
Thanks again for your help. -
I hear ya. We have considered relocating to another region where they have more activity at that particular terminal. The main problem here is that there are more loads going out of Florida than there are coming back in. And the dedicated runs are allocated to those with more seniority. So, only time will tell at this point.

i don't know if a 14/7 would fit the bill money wise but rohel and knight both have those set ups, and i don't know if they are in your area also i think schnider had something similar
also something to think about on the dedicated front, i did sears/kmart with swift for 2.5 years,
as for the job aspect you always know where your going and when you will be home, but you usually get home late and leave early, so yes you may be home a few times a week but rarely weekends off atleast not the whole weekend, and your tired you hit the 70 hour mark and reset and go for it again..
what im saying is the home time is normally not quality home timeThe Huntress Thanks this. -
I would have your husband try Link America. They have a Lakeland terminal and do SE Regional. Have him try Davis transfer as well.

Don't let Craigslist fool you, there are a lot of reputable companies that advertise on there. Calex as well as Epes, Conway and Averitt all advertise on CL. Also so do all the major carriers as well.
He should definitley call Calex and ask if they need a Fla driver. They definitley seem pretty solid. Its tough living in Florida and getting home, I lived in Clearwater the last 20 years.
Good luck!The Huntress Thanks this.
