This work definatly isn't for everyone..it's dirty and phisical but I like it because it keeps me in shape and I'm home every nite and I work 3 weeks on 1 week off so basically i work 5 days take a day for 3 weeks then take 8 to 10 days off...in my first 6 mos of working here I owe no vehicle pmts and I own a jeep and a 3/4 ton ford and a stock trailer and I would love to have my own truck just not here the roads are rough and there's not enough mechs to keep you on the road and I'm not a mech and wouldn't want my days off fixing things..I give cudos to the over the road guys in my opinion it's gotta be harder to be away from family and friends and hobbies I certainly couldn't do it but thank goodness there's a someone for every kind of job that needs to get done..I've been here almost 2 yrs now and love it :biggrin_255:

Well I put in Apps/resume at a few places yesterday: powerfuels, KSI, mbi energy, and western petroleum. From your guys experience will they call me or do I need to call them in a few days?

I agree, I can sell myself much better in person.

    Off topic:

I was thinking about trying to find a place to go fishing tomorrow. Any one know any spots near Ross?

Paddlefishing is on (catch and release only) at the confluence near trenton. Or you could go to smishek lake just west of Powers Lake (go north on 93rd which is just west of Ross then turn go west on HWY 50 and follow the smishek lake signs). Or go west to 101st (White Earth Bay Road). Follow that south. Go over HWY 1804 and continue south. The road will hit a T about 1 mile south of HWY 1804 - go east here. That will take you about another mile or so. Follow the main road south. At the bottom of a big hill, you will pass a house that is right next to the road. The road will curve east. Follow that curve, but stay to the right to up the big hill. Pass the drilling rig on your left (Cyclone #14) back to the bay. Stay on the road going East and go through the sign that says no trucks.

MBI will likely call you to set up a Skype interview. Make sure it's working with someone else properly. You've been warned.

Also. If any questions come up on HOS and if you are at 69 hours or so and the dispatcher asks you to go help with a load that will put you over 70 hours.....

The correct answer is you are close to being out of hours and need to come back to the shop. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.

They are picky on HOS and going over.

Good advice, but I don't really have a way to Skype lol.

Also got a lead on a company called MOFS in KillDeer from someone I know back in Michigan. Anyone know anything about them? I plan to see if the lead pans out to anything on Monday.

A friend of mine is trying to start a trucking biz in the bakken, and I'm also out here (E. Montana, precisely) messing around in construction(good biz for a while, I think!), and it seems to me that there's still a big glut of independents/OO's out here... do you think I should try to convince him not to proceed?

I know the Big Boys are hiring, but what sort of odds does a startup independent have? He asked me to help him research buying trucks from another company that gave up hauling because of the slack market, and I just feel like he's walking into trouble... I asked a guy I know at PF, and he said they're not taking new independents. The people at Black Falls or whatever said they may know someone... seems like a lot of hot air, to me.

Thoughts? This isn't applicable to people applying for Big Boys, as they're OK, but for independents (specifically, startup) and O/O's...

May the scoria be with you all! :D

Oh, he's also convinced it's a good time to buy equipment since people are offloading trucks and tankers... I get the logic, but that only makes sense if you have work...
