After my truck was paid off I took a break from training. But I am back at it now and the pay is pretty good. I figure if I am going to be out here away from my family I might as well do what I can to increase my income. -
We thought maybe we were just imagining this happening after he had the guy he picked up and who ran team with him a little while, it seemed like they had short runs with a day between sometimes before the next run, etc.
How did you get sleep the 1st couple of weeks with a newbie. He may have to change how he is doing this; he had the guy start out driving 1st thing; he finally is able to shift a little bit better, but I can see how it is going to cost us money in the long run at the rate this guy is going.
He finally made him write all the route info and look at the map and plan when and where he was going to take his break and stop, etc. It seems like this was even a problem on Phase 2 with students not really wanting to take charge of any planning. Like they are on vacation or something.
Well another 2weeks and we will see if he is ready to upgrade to Phase 2.
Husband will not pass him till he is sure he is ready to go on; not like some of the Phase 2 he got himself in the past.scottied67 Thanks this. -
When I was in western regional I used to sit a lot with the student. Some weeks my student's check was bigger then mine. I am in the container (connex) fleet now and I average about 4,500 miles a week which is just fine for me. I know phase 1 trainers that do close to 6K a week but they sleep a lot when the student is driving.
Your husband better make sure your student is ready to upgrade to solo status when he drops him off. If that student gets into an accident England will point the finger at his trainer.scottied67 Thanks this. -
The guy has no clue on how to shift a truck, I told hubby he needed to get a fly swatter and bop him when he wasn't doing it right. He swings on the steering wheel, worries about what everyone else is doing when they pass him,, etc, which is ok, but you can't get your underwear in a major twist over it. He is real high strung (sounds like and reminds me of my brother who gets louder and more annoying as time goes on). Hubby had him put his cell phone in the cabinet today and dared him to touch it(he likes to live on it).
If he doesn't get any better he will not pass him and already told him that he wouldn't so the ball is back in the students court if he really wants to learn or if this is just a lark inorder to see the US and meet up with friends across the country. But I will let him know what you said. I know if the finger pointing is going around it will never be at CRE.
I guess we are all getting too old to put up with some of the stuff that goes on now days.
I think he has only used the 2hr restart one time, I feel like a duck out of water when it comes to this and have gone over the rules, etc.
As far as pay we were in the hole last week, the student made $60.00 more than he did this this coming up Tuesday. I really think CRE should be paying the trainer if you ask me or they should require more schooling or something. We'll see the next couple of weeks how it goes.
Maybe the future will look up, been keeping my fingers crossed now for quite a few months now.scottied67 Thanks this. -
If I had a student like your husband's I would document any kind of problems to my TC via macro 20. This way after two weeks of training and the student is not showing any progress or is digressing I could remove them from my truck. This way everything is documented, bad student is off the truck, husband can pickup a new student, and since he did not sign off on him he is okay if the student happens to get into an accident.
My ratio is 1:3 for students I remove from my truck early. There are many reasons but as long as I document it correctly the TC doesn't care I released my student from my truck. Some students I picked up already had two trainers before me. A lot of times that really straightens them out.scottied67 Thanks this. -
I know he has already had a talk and sent I guess the macro 20 on him about an issue of student deciding to leave the truck. They have that settled for now, don't know for how long. If anything else occurs I don't think hubby will keep him.
I know he had on Phase 2 one person who had gone through 5 trainers, and one had 2 or 3 trainers. I guess CRE isn't willing to let it go till someone really calls it uncle. On a different student he flunked, took him straight to SLC and dropped him off and we heard they gave the guy 2 days off and put him with another trainer. He ended up going through a red light and hit a vehicle.
Well I hope the next one he gets has had a little experience at least in shifting.
Has the one you have now been in the service recently and just returned, or just wanting a different job. -
My current student got out of the Army about 5 months ago and got his CDL through some trucking school in Texas (paid for with GI Bill). I asked him why England and he said he applied to 6 different companies and England responded the next day.

The best thing about my current student is that he is used to being away from home so home sickness is not an issue. Most of my students start going through that depression period after two weeks of being out and ask why I can't route myself through their home town. Their home sickness just adds on to the training problems that are already occurring.
scottied67 Thanks this. -
I want to get most of the studying portion out of the way so i can focus on the rest of the things that the trainer has to offer.
I don't get home sick (Due to moving 14 times in my life time (I'm only 21))...
I'm excitedCooper09 and scottied67 Thank this.
