I just ordered a Aircard for my Laptp and it says it has an optional port for plugging in an external antenna, does anyone know where you bu these, it seems in the truck that would make a huge diference for reception. If you know where and how much that would be awesome. I purchased a Merlin Brand card

Try a google search for "Merlin External cell phone [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][SIZE=-1]antenna" and you will see a number of choices of where to buy it.

There is a big advertiser on this site who would be happy to tell you all about his antennas.

Here's how the amplifier works . It takes direction from your device so it will first look for an EVDO tower . Only when there is not a good EVDO signal available then it looks for 1XRTT . So to answer your question yes it will keep you connected to the EVDO towers whenever possible giving increased upload and download speeds and reduced latency.

That reminds me of a question I have been meaning to ask for awhile...
I have Sprint BroadBand using a U720 (which is the FASTEST card, but discontinued by Sprint). I get screaming fast in many areas, but for some reason streaming video still re-buffers often. Would an amplifier and antenna help?

It should as what is causing your problem is probably latency and with a better signal Latency is usually reduced

I have the EX720 card from Sprint it is extremely fast, but the technician at the Sprint store in Daytona Beach told me that an external antenna or a booster don't work and not waste my money on one, why would they tell me that. They brought it up when I bought the card and requested for one with an external plug. Just seems to me that an external antenna should work better.
