I moved a lot of old A model cats with the pup motor. Heck, I loaded a dead one with just the pup motor. Took a while to get it on the lowbed, lots of deep reduction. LOl

Anyone remember the old three stick shifting pattern, mostly local trucks, 10 wheelers and transfers trucks. I think the first stick was an H pattern all low end gears, and the other two sticks, back and forth between the two of them using the first stick to move up into high range with the other two sticks, I think ?. Been so long I cant recall, but it was a lot of shifting ! ?

Here's another "old" trick that actually worked up in the "Frozen Nawth" in the winter.

When travelling icy and often unplowed roads you backed off the brakes on one trailer wheel. The "theory" was that the one rolling wheel kept you straight on the downhills. Never did have a trailer "come around" on me while doing this.:biggrin_2559:

Thanks Okiedokie. Back then when I was young, I thought I was hot stuff shifting all those gears. Now days would not have the patience to go through all that again.

I remember when the Govt. mandated that brakes had to be on the steering axle. All the old timers griped that "This would cause accidents and was no good for trucking...lol....I sure am glad for front axle brakes today!
Then the first electronic engines came in....The old timers....You'll never catch me driving one of them, can't feel the road without a mechanical throttle.....I'm sure glad for electronic engines, esp cruise control.

One thing about us old truckers.....we don't like changes....told the wife the other day, you will never catch me driving a truck that used DEF....lol

    Rideandrepair and x#1 Thank this.
