Darn, so airlines wont consider 4 years of Microsoft FSX over a degree?

Are you sure you need a degree to become a Captain? I ask as there are many flight schools that do not require you to possess a degree to begin with.

in order to obtain a commercial pilots license you must have a 4 year degree, period no way around it. You can get a solo license like me, or a private license like Walsitb has without one though.

you can fly the single engine planes without a degree, but to play first seat or captain at a regional or national airline a degree is required. Just imagine if flying a 747 was like a cdl mill..Oh boy!

keep in mind, airline pilots make about was a rookie OTR driver makes, has alot less job security, and has about the same lifestyle as a OTR driver except the sleep in the passeger area or in hotels as opposed to a sleeper. (airline pilot was my first choice common sence and my Aircraft Tech education taught me to look elswhere for work...just my .02cents...

It's true. Anyone remember that regional jet that crashed the other year during the winter? They looked into the pilots lifestlye and how they had to bounce around every just to fly a plane with little to no sleep and minimal pay. But wth, it'd be a new challenge :D

This is sadly true. Low low pay, awful work conditions and hours, until you get enough hours to get a good gig, which could take ten years or more. And don't even mention the $150k loan you will have for flight school and all the certs and hours.....

Not to mention when it comes time to decide who gets to fly the big jet with the big salary which application do you think will be pushed to the top? The guy retiring from the Air Force or the guy with 150K in private flying school debt. The air force has trained him better and only promoted the cream to start with.

Nope, it's all about seniority at the airlines. And by seniority, it's seniority at the company you are at, not how long you've been flying.

    The Challenger Thanks this.

DTB hit it on the door nail. Those who have most time will get what bids/lines etc they want.
