My trainer at Swift

    This guy swears at me and every driver on the road. His complaining about 4 wheelers is almost constant and makes me crazy. He is a real bear in the morning too. He has no patience and he likes to bark orders at me. I'm 48 years old and I really have to keep myself in check because this guy is an awesome truck driver. He manages his time extremely well, is always on time with his loads, treats the customers like Gold, knows every inch of his route from St. Paul to Toledo like the back of his hand (it's a dedicated route for George Weston Bakeries). This guy is a runner. He's a smart driver and plans ahead. I hate his guts sometimes... lol

    He won't let me sleep when he's driving because "you ain't learning anything when your sleeping, you need to build your stamina."

    I'm half way through my six weeks and as much as I hate this guy at times, I'm #### glad he's my trainer. It's all about the "Big Picture"

    Well, at least your time with him is coming to an end. I understand your frustrations with him, but if he's that good, take the good, lock it away in that brain vault and throw out the bad. LOL

    He sounds like he is a good trainer in spite of him being rough. I am sure you will remember the time spent with him when you are finally on your own.
    Every day, as I go down the road, I silently thank my trainer for all his patience, and tricks that he taught me! Actually, today I seriously considered calling him just to say thanks... maybe I should do just that!

    Be thankful he's not a total jerk AND he doesn't know what he's doing!! Thank goodness you WILL learn things from him, he DOES know what he's doing and the time WILL come to an end.

    Good for you for sticking it out :)

    Thanks for the supportive replies. There are 4 other Swift drivers on this particular route and 2 of them are trainers also. I hear the scuttlebutt from time to time on the route from our receivers and one Owner Operator on the route. Let's put it this way, I could do allot worse...

    I work with a guy who worked at swift for one trip, The guys idea of training was I gotta get some sleep Wake me up if we crashThey were going thru PA in a blizzard and cars were off in ditches big trucks were jack knived in the road. Glen hollors back into the sleeper for his trainer The trainer peeks out of the bunk looks at the carnage and says your doing good and goes back to sleep

    My trainer told me about his Swift trainer. In the six weeks, they stopped for two hot meals. Period. The dude told him to eat donuts since it's a bakery run. He was supposed to do 28 backs of which he did 3. The dude took 3 showers in six weeks.

    OMG! That is disgusting......Sorry fellas, but I gotta take a shower at least every other day.....Even if that means missing a half an hour of bunk time....

    Definitely at least every three days!! Any longer and the whole truck starts to smell!!! Every second day is optimum, every third when running hard, in unfamiliar or dirty (icky) places where I just will not shower or just can't find a truck stop :biggrin_25519:
