3 axle 45ft flatbed questions.

    We have an 89 great dane 45 ft, 3 axle with the third axle as a lift axle. The axles are fixed. Its load cap. is 90,000lbs. My question is are we going to run onto problems running this doing general flatbed freight?

    Without even asking, I know it's going to be heavy, it's an old Great Dane and it has a third axle. Second, it's only 45 foot. Not a lot of market for that.

    empty off the top of my head i think 18000. and closed axle.

    Just my opinion, but, I think you would have a hard time doing general freight with that trailer. Be good for something like heavy single coils, where length doesn't matter.

    I guess the weight isnt really the problem its the fixed axle and length?

    I can't imagine it being that heavy. I've got a 50' Wabash tri-axle coil trailer that's all steel with a conestoga that's only 16k. My 4 axle 50' alum flat with a conestoga is 15k. Even with a wood floor it couldn't be that heavy.

    I think the 45' would hurt you more than the weight unless your tractor is a lead sled also. Removing an axle will only save you about 1500#.

    Move north to IN MI OH and come pull coils. You could make great money up here with that setup. Only down side is you now have to buy 4 more tires each time :(
