    Hi guys-
I'm new to the site and fairly new to the diesel arena. We have a problem and after reading many posts I believe you know your stuff and wondering if you can help out.

    Truck- 1995 volvo D12

Problem- The truck starts fine and dies completely after about 20-30 seconds. It doesnt sputter or anything like that, it flat shuts off. It starts right up after the shutdown and dies everytime after 20-30 seconds. The check engine light is NOT on. The Check Fluids light IS on.

What we've tried- Coolant levels appear ok. Oil pressure in the cab is ok. We scanned the motor. No fault codes(active or inactive) come up on the scanner. There are onboard flash codes of 46 and 41 but dont believe this is related. The truck owner had just changed out the coolant level sensor as a shot in the dark. We disconnected main battery power. Nothing has worked thus far.

    any suggestions?

Thanks so much for any help you could provide.

Is it D12A? there was nio engine protection shutdown in '95

sounds like bad wiring ore air in fuel.....

How do I find if its a d12a? I know it's a VE D12-425VT, does that help at all? If it were air in the fuel, how would that explain the Check Fluids light? wouldnt the engine stumble before it died? I did notice in the manual it said engine shutdown protection was an option. I'm not sure if that does us any good or not.

If it were the wiring, and in your experience, where would you start looking?

    continued thanks for your help!

I sugest it is not D12A, it is D12B. Minor difference with D12A, and EPA calibrated. ECM is 12V. These trucks had something like protection modul, any level switch is open - engine stalls. Try to short coolant level switch

I can post you early FH diagram. They share ECMs but as I can see, there is no Engine protection in this ECM so seems to me they used modul that disables ECM power supply. Let me try to find diagram tommorow
