As I said, he's a friend. All I know is they claimed he was over on the spread.

They don't "claim" anything at a chicken coup, they show the driver his weights usually, and I gurrantee they printed it out and gave him a ticket showing his actual axle weights.

Unless their scale was totally screwed up, and he can show a bill of lading with weight printed on it. Or, after leaving he went and got a certified scale ticket somewhere else to show to the judge later on...

You said its a spread axle right? What's the chance the dump valve was on and he's over on one axle? It is probable that he forgot to flip the switch...

Yes, but they still have to show the driver what THEIR scale says. If his BOL said 25,000 and they are telling me that I'm overweight on an axle then I'd have to realize that either their scale is off or the shipper put the wrong weight on the bills. Either way, I would have and most any other professional driver would have realized the load was a bit heavy and close to gross just by driving the truck. And the smart thing to do would have been to go to a CAT scale and get it checked.

I just feel this is another lunch counter story that started with "your not gonna believe this...." or the "friend" is just another steering wheel holder who heard he was hauling a load of plastic pipe and it never occurred to him (lack of common sense most likely) that a load of plastic could weigh a lot.

Was he frontloaded with drainage pipe? That could happen... I think. If smaller pipe was stuffed into larger pipe. Maybe?

From my understanding, Boyd doesn't have dump valves.

Perhaps he had leveler valve problems or had a blown airbag on one axle, putting the other one overweight?
