I saw how much my trainer brought home (after his truck payment and fuel) and he made good when I would run hard for him.

The only problem is getting a student who can run hard enough to make money. I would say 5 of my last 7 students were unable to run hard enough, mostly because they can't sleep well enough with the Trk running. I make a little more yes, but not enough with a student like that to justify the added headache.

Hello all I'm considering looking into Central in the next few weeks but I have a fear that once I'm hired I won't be getting enough miles (I'll be running teams) as I am now which is close to 5000. Now we like to keep moving but at least 2 days out of the month off would be nice (live in Bakersfield,Ca or SoCal) if its not possible then well no problems. My next question would have to be truck selection, I'm liking the Petes they have but everyone I've seen had leased on the sleeper. Is it possible to choose one or will I be driving those prostars or the cascadias? Lastly when I talked to the recruiter she told me if I sign on we have to stay on for at least 6months but like everyone says never trust them and Is there a penalty fee of we decide to quit?
Thanks in advance -
First things first! Drive company for a year before making any decision about leasing. You don't know who your dispatcher is going to be and don't know what kind of miles you will be running! During your first year keep track of everything you do as if you were an owner op and see how you do. You will know exactly where you stand and can make a good informed decision from there.
Central does have Pete's and they have some of the best equipment out there! As a company driver you can make a request as to what you want to drive but will be issued whatever is available at the time.
As far as making a commitment to Central and signing a contract with them it really is a good deal. Personally I would rather be on the hook with a trucking company than a bank! My wife and I drove for Central and really had a good experience there. Central really went above and beyond to help us succeed and whenever there was a problem they always came through and are always there to help their drivers succeed. Central is just large enough to keep you busy yet small enough to treat you like a human being instead of a number! This is very, very important especially when it comes to your dispatcher. The ability to have a personal relationship with your dispatcher is your number one key to your success out there! At the mega-carriers most dispatchers are responsible for hundreds of drivers making you just a number.
Being in Bakersfield is a bit of an advantage if you are going with Central. They do a lot of freight in and out of Cali and have a drop yard not far from you making getting by the house a little easier.
Good luck man...rollo721 and dieselboyz Thank this. -

Jessjuju is right. They are a pretty friendly couple teaming for Central and will give it to you real! Haven't heard from them in a little bit though. They can definitely give you a real time perspective as to what the teams are running right now.

i worked for coca cola as a local delivery driver and made 22 an hour. pepsi pays almost the same if not a little more ( they pay more for insurance. so it evens out). this is out of southern calif. i got terminated last sept. so i don,t work there no more.

I would get off the road right now for that kind of money local. It is not available where I live though. To get it I would have to move somewhere that the cost of living is several times higher than it is where I am now. And in that case 22 would not cut it. It is allot more than you will ever earn driving OTR though. Unless you get on with Walmart or another really good private fleet. But those all will require 3+ years OTR. With a spotless record.

yeah..i understand that. i been trying to apply to the higher paying jobs here and having tough time of it.think my termination is the issue for no callbacks. might have to start applying to the otr positions.start at bottom again which gonna suck. and from.what i read on this site i'd need to go back to school again
