Quick question. I got my class A last October, 2011. Had an another opportunity and didn't start driving. What options do I have if I wanted to start driving. I know some companies won't hire you if you don't start within a couple of months of getting your cdl.

With no practical experience since you got your CDL, I think that most starter companies are going to want you to take some type of refresher program at the very least, if not insisting that you go through a full-fledged training program from the beginning. Get another DOT physical; companies will probably want one that's less than 30 days old.

Start filling out apps either online or paper, brush up on PTI checkpoints and HOS regulations.

It might be a good idea to locate a school that will "rent" you a truck and instructor for a few hours of backing and street practice. You don't wanna jump in a truck with a trainer, look at the dashboard with all those switches and knobs and ask, "What's this big yellow knob for?"

Unfortunately I see a refresher course in your future. I personally would recommend trying to find a carrier that will take you and get you going for no money upfront.

your options are what the others have said. this time however, if you go through the re-training, get the trucking job and stick to it.

I got outta school at the end of Feb.

Middle of March I was taking a road test.

It was about 3 weeks (or bouts) since I had sat in a truck.
I got in the truck for my test and was like.. whoa... wait a minute...
I had to really focus and not let panic set in that "I don't know what to do" feeling...

    11 months? Wow...
I'd probably forgot 90% or so in 11 months. It's not like the school over loaded us with knowledge anyways.

Thanks for the replies. Kind of figured I would need a refresher course. I did do a little driving, bob tail and empty van, for the new start up that never happened. Local only and no logs. Company not even around anymore.

    Thanks again

There are companies that will take you now.

Some have a 12-18 month window, from when you went to school.

    Try US Xpress and Swift.

They'll put you on with a trainer.
