Howdy folks and fellow Arrow Trucking drivers. This is very scary news that I'm about to pass on. We here at Arrow recently got a new safety director. He came over from Swift (yes, that one). They made him an executive vice-president. He wants to make alot of changes, most of which I think our drivers would agree with. But here comes the bombshell. He wants to turn all of our trucks down!!!
A friend of mine attended a in-house meeting Saturday. It was for people that work in our safety department. The new evp said that it made no sense to him that our trucks could go 70 to 75 miles an hour down the highway. And that in his personal view, trucks should be only able to go 60!
To me, this is very disturbing. If this happens, we will have more empty trucks than they know what to do with. It will be worse than what happened in spring of '05 when we went to the new computer system! (250 drivers quit over a period of six weeks!)

if you call 60 mph safe then you should be working back at the fast food place that you came from. the big orange pumkin trucks where set at 55 mph a few years ago and they where a harzard they should at the least be set at 75 mph. mine has no road speed on it. it is up to the driver on how fast or slow that they run there truck. goodday

Nothing is wrong with being safe! Guess it would help if I explained how our trucks are set up speed wise now.
All company trucks are set at 65 plus five. That means that they can go 65 and if their fuel mileage increases they go 70.
Trainer trucks and drivers with 2 or more years of service with Arrow are set at 70. Speeding tickets will cause a driver to lose this privilege.
Million mile drivers are set at 75. However, speeding tickets will cause them to lose this privilege as well.
Lease purchase drivers can have their truck set at any speed, up to 75. For this they pay a fee to the shop. But, if they get tickets, their speed will be turned down as well. -
well if they slow down the trucks then they should not be complaining when the loads start being delivered late..
But slower trucks are supposed to use less fuel, and create a safety cushion around them.. But it also does create safety issues when trucks and cars have to swerve around them..
But like anything, drivers are the forgotten part in the transportation industry... Some people forget that the truck does not get there on it's own... -
DING, DING, DING!!!! Folks, we have a winner!!!! As we used to say in aviation. They best piece of safety equipment in an airplane is a well trained pilot. The same is true for an OTR truck.

60mph. Would be faster to ship things by train at that point. Also are they going to make up the lost wages that people are going to take from a slow truck?
I remember a couple of times in NE coming up on a slow moving truck doing 55mph in a 75mph state. If you pull over to pass early, you get some four wheeling trying to pass you on the right and then shoot back into your lane, or testing the guy doing 55mph DOT bumper. -
Personally, I don't see anything wrong with being governed at 65-68 mph. Yeah it's slower than 70 or 75, but it's liveable. However, I think 60 mph is a roadhazard. There are some wiggle-wagons out here doing 55 and 60, but with traffic approaching behind at 70 and 75, there's alot of swirving, lane changing and stacking up as they approach. I don't care how "safe" an executive says it is, I just know what I see, and it's more dangerous than safe.

I think 70-75 mph is a safe speed. I run that fast all the time on the interstate and rural highways and I'm still the slow poke. Going 60 would put me to sleep and I wouldn't feel too safe with everyone else going 80.

Its there trucks, if ou dont like drive for someone else. If you dont like others deciding for you, buy your own truck.
Actually, after all the BS and smoke settles it will make very little difference to your paycheck, if any. Simply play the game back, run totally legal, no speed, no over hours, count all your time spent at shippers and recievers. Make sure they are paying you for all your time, etc... But bottom line you should leave if you disagree with there fundamental policies.
