Things like this truly annoy me. "No Jakes" signs everywhere.

States are spending our tax dollars on sound barrier walls because some people truly fit the definition of "Idiot".

It isn't difficult at all to figure out, if you build a 1.5 million dollar house along the interstate, in the NEW upscale burb. You are going to be listening to TRUCKS that run that road.

And they consider us to be "the uneducated" bunch of this scenerio.

Danc, you hit the nail on the head!

We're facing the same problem here -- people moving into (what now is "used to be") rural areas to live the country life, only to find that they don't LIKE the tractors moving around at 5 a.m., and the "eau du manure" in the springtime. So rather than move out, they fuss and complain. Hoot and howl. And place restrictions on those of us who made this area the "bucolic lifestyle" they so desired.

I grew up next to railroad tracks... and my current house sits on a road that leads to a small truck terminal. And believe it or not, when I go to bed at night, I find the sound of those passing trucks very relaxing. Even the jakes. To me, it's just one more sign that means all is well with my world. And believe it or not, I'd miss them if they weren't there...

Ducks I agree with you... I live on a major road, the traffic is heavy, and its an emergency vehicle route. So, at the best of times its noisy. Sounds like the sea to me, and when I hear the trucks coming up the steep hill, engines labouring, I am happy to hear them nearby... same with the trucks going in the opposite direction using their jakes...
If people want convenience of living right downtown, they will have to put up with certain givens... traffic noise being one!

The problem with the use of engine brakes, for the most part they have toned down the loud noise related to their use. Problem is you get some moron with six inch straight pipes on 6 cyl set coing thru town at 3 am on flat ground, you have heard these clowns so say thank you to him for the restrictions.:biggrin_25510:Consideration and courtesy are not words fom the past..

The only place I agree with the "no jakes" signs are in residential areas that have been there forever and there are ways around them. We live on a rural road but you can take a highway to go around us so, if you're driving down this rural road in the middle of the night (which is a speed limit of 30 mph and NOT hilly), turn off your jake. We always do.

Other than that, if you're on a highway, why should you turn off your jake because some idiot wants to live next to the highway??!??!! Doesn't make sense to me!!!

This should be interesting, I live on a highway, but this summer it has been VERY quiet. Both bridges, one North and one South, are being rebuilt. My kids think its great to be able to walk the dogs on the highway and only worry about the occasional local car. I must admit it has been nice to be outside and be able to hear easier. But I bought the house with the highway already there so who's to blame? Both bridges open on Nov. 1, so the noise will be back. I wil not be complaining! It always amazes me when people complain about things that were there when they moved in or built the new house. Talk about "not in my back yard" mentality!

Hmmm. I don't think I've ever heard a Jake break. Seriously, I lived in a small town where trucks were always going through. So if I heard it I didn't know what it was. Curious, is it that annoying? You'd think I'd have noticed.:yes2557:
