I must agree. When I talked to Darrin G on the initial fone interview (SEVERAL OF THEM) he talked this company up. Told me I was starting out at .37 CPM and told me to expect 3200 miles a week with every week-end home. I get to orientation and it was a joke. There were 2 of us. Found out I was making .34 cpm, When I was issued my truck they said it was detailed. Yeah OK. I got up in the truck and the smell just about leveled me. Then I talked to several of their drivers. They told me not to carry that first load because it would be a mistake on my career.
I made up an excuse to get out of there. When I got home I had a friend of mine who has access to all company safety numbers (DOT) and GRAY'S suck. in the last year they have had over 20 accident and 9 DOT shut downs due to drivers drink alcohol in a comercial vehicle.
Again: STAY FAR AWAY -
Has anyone worked for Gray Transportation and liked it???
-
Why would it have been a mistake to carry the first load, did they elaborate??? Was it just the smell of the truck??

I found it hard to get miles and make a paycheck! i wound not reccomend this company to the worst drivers on the road!! They dont pay you if you dont get paperwork turned in on time but dont get you to the only two drop boxes beside company to get pickup on time. I was with this company a year and for the most part all i did was babysit there truck cause was always in the shop brokedown. On last time it broke, the fan and pull assembly fell off front of motor and then after 3 days in motel. the truck fnally got fixed and was starting to get good miles and then Darrin G fired me because they didnt need me to babysit thier truck anymore. Told me because of my attitude. gues should b P.O. when i am working for free. then left a box of stuff that could take with me on the bus and was told would be taped up. came to pick up about 2 weeks later and had stuff missing. only the facts!!!
Trucking can still be fun!! -
I worked there not even a day and a half had an accident where my truck was overheating in wi. called the shop told me to drive back to waterloo so they could fix it welll going 55 down a straight road about 5 miles from grays shop. When my engine stalled due to overheating issues. I lost my power steering and filpped the truck on its side they said truck was reapiarable and trailer was also and the load was not damaged. Well i was taken too hospital in an ambulance to get checked out noone from gray showed up to hospital to see if i was all right. The following monday darrin wanted to talk now mind u my left sholuder was hurting from the seat belt i couldnt move my left arm him told him what happend and he proceeded to tell me that a truck doesnt stall even if it did you still have power steering. Well he said ill think about it well i posted something on hanks truck pictures of the accidents and darrin theathened to fire me over it and he posted on tehre publicly embarassing me and my father. The day after Thanksgiving i call darrin now im still on workmans comp. and was not medically released darrrin proceeded to tell me that i was fired fr Major Preventable Accident. There was no fatlites , no injuries excpet to me, and it was a tow away. Well i get a call Dec. 2nd Leroy Gray the owner wants to talk to me. he said ill giveyou your job back at 0.27 cents a mile you lose professinal pay. I said ok so i get my truck and take a load to moline ,il and drop the trailer and go pick up full one in jacbson warehouse in east moline. Got lost because they gave me diectiosn to the warehouse when tthe tarielr was at the yard across the street from the plant. got the trailer and got back to waterloo then the enxt day left for mn. I got all the way to Cleear Lake,ia when my shifter (super10) wasnt going into gears i had to put all my wieght into it. Well they sent me up anotehr truck. I called the shop at 2 pm truck tehre tow truck did not get tehre until 8 pm and waterloo is only an hour and a half from clear lake. teh truck they gave me was worse the seat was broke and panels missing, steering was wobbly. i refused to drive the truck o mn. So went back to waterloo with an empty reefer when i got tehre the shop was looking at the truck. My dispatcher told e i needed to talk to Leroy. Leroy then fired me and said and i quote"Get your stuff out of the truck , im ****** done with you". gray is not teh place to work for not 2nd or 3rd shift dispatch limited fuel on fuel card and half the staff in office are just plian *****

I was there for a year and 4 months. Worst job in my life. I figured out where Gray Got there trucks when I was in Afganistan. Back in the year 2000 the Taliban figured out there were trucks too bad even for Afganistan , so they formed the Afgan DOT and issued a fatwa that were unsafe there should be pulled off the road and have there status painted on the Side . They went with the initials GRAY to indicate Got Rejected Afganistan Yesterday. Then Gray picked em up for free and put new inspection stickers on them.

I see they are buying new trucks on a regular basis; but apparently driver comfort is not being concidered when making choices.
Last batch was International's----52" sleeper. Now I see they got in some new Petes just last week----50" sleeper.
