As with most stories, I am sure they are based somewhat in fact, but overblown none the less. I will be meeting my trainer in about three hours. I did speak to him on the phone last night and he seemed like a good guy. Time will tell. I do know Stevens has encouraged us to report any trainers we have issues with such as not allowing us to shower or showering themselves etc... so they can weed them out. Time will tell.

As for accommodations, it's not the Intercontinental, but it is clean, no roaches running around and other things I have heard. I have been at the Extended Stay motel, and there is a kitchenette so that helps keep you meal costs down. I have seen better, but I have seen much worse to. I was fortunate as far as room motes go. Been here 22 days, had a roommate for 9 of them is all.

The schooling is first rate to me. A few days of classes to learn a few things and get your permit. After the classes are over you go out for 100 hours minimum of driving with an instructor. Its all one-on-one training. Once you and your instructor believe you can pass the tests, you go back to Springfield and test out. After a few more days on the training pad for practice. Once you get that CDL youre a Prime employee. Youll be given a ride down to the DMV to get it. Once you start with your TNT trainer, you start making money.

My instructor was great, taught me a ton. My tnt trainer taught me how to run the truck, and my flatbed trainer taught me how to flatbed. They all accomplished what their jobs are.

Thanks KMAC for the info, I suppose if one can make it through the military and all that has to offer as far as some of the accommodations go then this will be a piece of cake.

Thanks OpenRoadDreamer, Sounds like Prime has been to you. So from start to finish how long has been until you finally got on the road and started make some money? At this point would you recommend Prime to someone? Good luck and be safe.

It would seem for those of us out here in small car world trying to get into trucking with no experience there is the great potential to choose the wrong company. I have read and researched those companies offer paid cdl training and have yet to find one that someone doesn't have something bad to say about one thing or another. I suppose you end up picking one of the lesser of two evils. There is a lot of unknown such as, what will the trainer be like?, what will the pay really be like and will the company keep you rolling so you can make a living. I guess the biggest question for me is what company offering paid cdl training do you choose? I suppose if I could get 10 of you in a room I would get 10 different answers. I have looked at, England, Prime, Stevens, Swift and any other company offering such training. I guess I am just looking at some feed back from folks who are and have been around this longer than I have. I don't want to make a decision I will be stuck with and have to deal with for a year before I can move to something better.
    Any info would be helpful

    Thanks.

Hey patton67, I went to Sage in Caldwell, great school, one on one driving in four hour shifts. They have always kept in contact for job referals.I for one would not go to a trucking company for schooling, if u end up hating this company your screwed, in my opinion

I started orientation on May 17 2011, got my CDL on June 23 2011. As long as youre available for dispatch, you get the $600 a week. It starts the day you leave with your trainer on your first load. I would recommend Prime. Despite what you hear on here and in truck stops, its a good company. No company is perfect, but they work for me.

You wont find a company that someone wont talk bad about. You just have to talk to enough people who ACTUALLY DRIVE for that company. Not those who just repeat what theyve heard from other people. I dont know about any of the other companies on your list, but Ive had a good experience with Prime so far.
