Been doing a little bit of polishing today. I am doing a reset in barstow ca and #### if it's not hot! I got the passenger side tank and steps done plus made a start on the moose bar. I will try to do the drivers side later tonite when it cools down. If anyone's in Barstow at the flying j at exit.
178 on the I15 and you see a guy passed out from the heat with a polishing rag in his hand ....it's me! I wanted to put a couple of pics of my work but don't know how to get them from my iPhone to the page here.

I used to do all my own polishing, I can't hardly even stand the thought of doing it anymore. I usually take mine to Danny's in Phoenix off of 99th. If you catch them at night when they aren't busy you can get a really good deal.
kw9's rock Thanks this. -
I am sitting in my bunk with the AC going and feeling like I got a bit much sun today! I managed to get the right side tank and steps done as well as the front side of the moose bumper before giving up. I think the tanks and bumper should really be sanded down then brought back with compounds and a buffing wheel, they are just so pitted that my arm will fall off before I can get them to look how I want them to. But I think they look better than they did so that's good for now. I have a delivery to make in San Diego in the morning and then don't reload until Wednesday so will hit the drivers side tanks and steps tommorow when I get parked for the day.

I solved my polishing issues..... durabrite wheels, painted fuel tanks, stainless steel bull guard.

I was thinking of having my tanks painted but keeping the ends polished, I like that look. I have seen lots of painted tanks chipping and peeling, is this normal to have happen over time? What kind of paint is good for painting them with? I also like the look of powder coating, is this possible on aluminum tanks? I would like to go for a matte powder coat with polished ends and stainless strapping, I think the matte against the polish might look like a good color contrast.

Oh man. This last week during the blitz I decided it was my obligation to do something. So I wet sanded my tanks have all the materials to do a machine buff. Eff that. Needless to say I called and made an appointment for the end of June at my local polisher. Yeah. That is work. Work I am not cut out for!!! Maybe after he gets everything all done up I'll be able to maintain it as the aluminum has not been done in over 1 million miles. So you can imagine. Good luck with your endeavor.

...is a waste of money if you are doing anything more than a touch up every couple weeks.

If you are doing a good job of polishing and not letting to go it is ok, but if you are dealing with it not being polished in a long time a high quality wool bonnet and a high speed polisher does it. I drove show rigs for years including my own and those Mothers sponge balls are great for just a final touch.
