Rockdoctor: Will a DOT physical be done as well? Or, would I just need to show the medical card? Just had one in March thru the school.

They told us in orientation we could get some cheap boots for free or some nicer ones at a discount. But when I got to Houston they only gave me the cheap ones for free option so I ended up going to Munros Safety and picking up a pair of Magnum boots with a composite toe. Yes I know I'm spoiled...worked in the mining industry long enough to realize a hard steel toe sitting on your foot all day makes life suck. I drive around for 10-12 hours in these and never feel a thing!

When you do the phone interview for Schneider you will speak to a nurse and they will tell you where to go for a hair follicle test. At that time they will tell you if they want you to get a new DOT physical. If they didn't tell you to get one then just bring the paper work from your last DOT physical.AllieCat Thanks this.

If your DOT is fairly recent and you have the long form (7 pages?) they may accept that after you fax it in to the medical Dept. HTHAllieCat Thanks this.

I am new to this thread but heard all the great things about the oil field. I was interested in tanker before I even started school. I am attending Truck Driver Traning at Napier Truck Driving School and will be done mid July. Was curious if there is a way to get an oil field or tanker job in Texas? I have always loved Texas. Being able to work and live there would be a dream come true. Does anyone know or have advice for a cdl school grad getting in on oil field tanker, if not eligible maybe just tanker job in Texas?

@Ajv1987: Schneider gives new grads the opportunity to drive tanker....Victoria/Midland/Odessa. Newbies don't get the relocation funds like the experienced drivers. But, they will put you in a hotel for up to 2 weeks to give you a chance to locate a place to stay. I know there may be other companies out there that give newbies a chance but so far, to me, Schneider seems the best choice.

I agree that Schneider is the best choice, just wanted to know my options. Being put in a hotel for 2 weeks is great, it will give me somewhere to stay while finding a permanent place to live. I will drive tanker in Texas then just to get my foot in the door. I am surprised that they give new grads an opportunity to drive tanker. Thanks for the advice!

Save your money that 2 weeks!!! Cuz you will be there awhile on your own dime. Everywhere here has waiting lists no less than 3 months out. I've been here since Jan and am finally getting an apt June 30!
