Oh wow, I wonder if it is just because of the area or there are just that many Schneider employees looking for permanent places to live. I will save all I can, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches then for me or ramen noodles lol! Glad to here you made it with Schneider and enjoy the apartment, I bet you're ready for your own place. What area in Texas are you working out of?

I'm in Odessa. Its over populated here with oilfield ppl so everything is taken and everyone has been upping the rent the past cpl month cuz of the "boom". I've been hauling ltl freight since Feb here but need a change.
-
That makes it difficult, I wonder why they are still hiring down there for oil field positions. I worried that by the time I graduate they won't have any tanker jobs available. I would think all the people moving to Texas for the oil field that they have enough people but it still looks like the job posting is still up on the Schneider jobs site.

If all else.... The freight companies ALWAYS need ppl. I liked my job and my daily customers, but the company I was with was unsafe and dangerous. Not to mention driving in town all day with a 53'er and the idiots that drive here.... Makes a stressful day with not enough pay lol

Does anyone know how the housing is in Victoria? I've been looking online for furnished rentals and OMG! I've seen $1500 per month and higher
! Unfurnished seems to be between $500 - $600 for a one bedroom. But, after reading a few posts in the forum, availability may be an issue. I know I would be making good money but I'm not trying to spend it all on a place to stay.

While I have nothing against Schneider, I suggest you don't limit yourself to just one company. There are other companies that will hire newbies, particularly Key Energy and Nabors. A lot of this comes down to timing. You may want to work in Victoria or George West only to find the newbie positions are filled when you apply.
Be persistent and flexible and I'm sure you'll find a job in the patch. Best of luck. -
LOL, there will be tanker jobs don't you worry. Some people don't appreciate the job they have and blow it so that opens the door for others. Tonight I heard they started taking applications for 17 openings in Victoria. People get fired all the time for doing dumb things. I know a while back a guy flipped a u turn on the highway and was fired on the spot. This week two people got fired for driving 25 MPH in the plant where we load the crude. A couple of weeks back someone got fired for doctoring their log book. Another guy was just out joy riding. Some of the stuff people pull amazes me!

I've heard apartments are going for $700-$1200, a 3BR house will run you $1300-$1600. We pay $1450 for our house and it is just OK. There is a Caterpillar plant opening soon in Victoria and they are hiring 700 workers. Then there is the oil field thing. Still I have a feeling it would be much harder in West Texas and much much harder in ND to locate housing than it is here.
AllieCat Thanks this. -
It helps to know that there will be something available as far as tanker positions go. Being a truck driver has always been a dream of mine and I finally am making it come true! I definitely want to be a tanker driver and will pay my dues to get there. Texas is a great state and am glad to here a company like Schneider will give new cdl grads and opportunity. A couple of people have sent me messages wondering why I would move to Texas from Ohio when I could go to Caropolis, PA to do the same thing. I primarily want to work in Texas because of it's political values, more conservative there, beautiful state depending on where you are, better weather than snow and freezing rain. I am so anxious to get my schooling done so I can start the process and get down there. I appreciate all the information you have posted about your journey with Schneider.pokerperv Thanks this.
