    Hi, Folks!
Been a while, sorry! I just had an experience here at The I-83 truck stop here in York,Pa. I had dinner here in the restaurant, I did not spend a lot of money, as we don't have a lot to start with. I was just about to turn in, a long day, and had a guy knocking on my door looking for money for parking. The amount he was looking for was 10.00,not a lot, but the idea is that I spent money here already and was not 10.00. He said I had to leave,or pay him 10.00 to give me a parking permit, I don't carry cash, told him so, he said I had to get it up at the store up the road at the ATM. Hire money to give him so I could park, after already doing business here. They are closed, no ATM here, was going to eat breakfast here, now reconsidering.
There are no signs on the door, by the cash register, or anywhere else except a poorly displayed one on the back of the building. I was here many months ago, it was paid parking unless you did business, no problem, signs on the door, and notices by the cashier. None in either place, like I mentioned now. I figured they stopped charging, I know, should have asked, my mistake. He told me if I did not pay, he would call a tow truck and the cops. Fine, I was so happy to hear that. He was told that if he did, HE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE EXPENSES. I did not authorize such an action, and neither did my company. I had run out of time by that time,so no time to go elsewhere.
What I'm getting at,is the fact they should have signed the place good enough to let someone know at the entrance, and by the cashier. It was before. I had shown him a reciept from dinner, it was for a little over 7.00, He said it was not enough. I told him I was going to eat breakfast in the AM, he stated he did not care, I had not spent over 10.00 to park. He then stated he was being harrassed by me because I was stating facts as they were. I proceded to explain who was harassing who, after getting me out of bed to walk up to a convienence store up the street to hire money to give him to give me a parking permit and a 10.00 gift card for breakfast in the morning. I walked up to the store, got his money, walked back down to the truck stop, and gave him his money. He gave me his parking permit, and the gift card, I proceeded to explain to him, unless my company or myself wanted the truck moved, HE was going to pay the charges.
Take this as you will, but driver harassment is still very prominent in this country. Again, if they required money or a certain amount of trade at a location, then they are responsible to advise customers at the best locations for notification, so everyone is notified. All thier notifications should be in multiple locations, so it is known to each customer without any question. I, for one will now go out of my way to avoid this location. This may be wrong, but we are harassed on a daily basis about stuff like this, and these places get away with it. Drag the driver over a barrel to make him or her to do as they wish. Like I mentioned, there would not have been an issue if I knew ahead of time. Rick.

honestly, if ya pay 10.00 and get a 10.00 gift card for use at their restaurant , its a break even situation. look at it from their point of view, how many park there and never spend a dime?

you see that all the time.

and if you are in a private owned parking lot and told to leave or they will have you towed, you will more than likely be responsible for the tow.

the easiest would have been to spend 3 more bucks and be done with it.

i am surprised more places dont charge to park, what with the litter and such left behind.

when i am not sure of parking, i always ask.

by the way, how was breakfast the next morning?

I'm on the truckstops' side when it comes to parking fees vs. paying for their services. I personally don't like the idea of a non-paying customer taking up the parking space that I could have had since I buy fuel there. On the other hand, I do not like their methods. For instance, there's a TA in Connecticut where when you exit the scale, you end up bypassing the attendant's booth and go straight to the parking lot. So, I pull onto the scale, give my info, then go park along the concrete barriers not in a space (there weren't any spaces open anyway). It's pouring rain, 7:30pm. I needed fuel, but didn't want to block the fuel islands while I took my daily dump. And I didn't want to wait in line twice for the scale ticket and to pay for fuel. So I go and finish my business, get my truck and head to the exit to circle around for fuel. Rude dude in the box tells me that I have to pay. I explain to him that I scaled, and am now going around for fuel. "DID YOU PARK?" he asks. "Yeah", I said "and I went in to take a crap, and now I'm going to get fuel and my scale ticket". "WELL how LONG were you in there?" "Long enough to take a dump. Oh, and I stopped to wash my hands." "Just, just GO" he yells. :|

I prefer not to fuel just before parking, as there will be more fuel available to steal if someone is so inclined. This usually creates a parking payment inconvenience for me as well. Something should be done about that.

This should be dealt with as well. This morning, I saw a USXpress truck with a puddle of urine and a wad of wet toilet paper on the ground just outside the driver's door. Simply amazing.

I generally have little patience for people disturbing me in my sleep to ask for money. I'm not going to have a fuel receipt because I never park with a full tank of fuel....if I need fuel, I'll get it in the morning before I roll out. If the lot is a "pay to park" lot, and that fee is waived with a certain dollar amount spent inside the establishment, then I have until the time I leave to spend the requisite amount. If you aren't collecting the parking fee as the trucks come into the lot (with refunds given on their way out if enough dollars are spent during the stay), don't come knocking on my door in the middle of the night trying to collect. I don't care WHO you claim to be, I'm not giving you a #### thing.

I don't mind paying to park in some places, but liek one place I go, you're supposed to go in and pay, but I see a bunch of container haulers drive in, park, someone comes and gets them and they leave their truck sitting there and don't pay. I know the first time I go in there and don't pay, they'll be on my ### but let others get by with it.

I had ONE person once roll me out at 3 am telling me I had to pay to park or I'd be towed.

I told him to piss off and get the manager or go call the wrecker and went back to bed. If he bothered me again, I was going to call 911 on his ### for harassing me.

Never had a good nights sleep like that again and never got towed either.

I have a big problem with all you lamers that hog up the few parking spots in the IL tollway Oasis's sleeping in the middle of the frickin day (curtains closed) and I need to get in to hit the bathroom in a hurry. I dont think they intended those parking spots to be used for a 10 hr break. There are other drivers that would like to get in there to use the bathrooms and grab a bite to eat. I always grab the airhorn and let everyone know i was there on my way out past the a-holes...
