    OK, stupid question time.............
what do you guys do about staying cool while parked in the Southern HEAT?
    USX doesn't have APU's correct?
Me and ROCKY (my 4 legged partner) are considering hiring on SOLO with USX.......but what do you do when you got a
pet on-board and it's 96* outside and you're parked for hours trying to rest ?????

I hope USX is reading this because I've already got 3 "pre-hire" letters from "pet" friendly companies that have APU's
and I'm not having a heat-stroke for anybody.

And I would really prefer NOT to mal-adjust thermostats or anything against company policy.

    Thanks, guys!

My truck pretty much will idle at any temperature over 70, although I don't really do it until its 80+ outside. You just have to wait the 5 minutes for the idle shutdown warning light and then tap the accelerator and you're good to go. No one has said anything to me yet.

A swamp cooler will work in keeping your sleeper cool without idling. You just need a Igloo cooler full of ice, a fan that plugs into a cig lighter outlet, and something to cut a hole for the fan (inlet air) and a smaller hole for the outlet air. Look for plans on the net.

Do you really think USX is reading this and really cares about your other prehires? You haven't even gotten hired and are trying to threaten USX through subtle means. Good Luck...

I'm not threatening anybody! There must be a reason a lot of companies are getting APU's......eventually they all will! I don't know if if you've noticed but it's currently a "DRIVER's" market out there (unless you have something on your record), so that means TONS of employment choices.........and me being with the same company 30 YEARS, Military experience driving the largest military trucks, NO misdemeanors, NO FELONIES AND NOTHING ON MY DRIVING RECORD FOR 10 YEARS......... I've gotten 3 "pre-hire" letters and I've received 3 follow-up phone calls from these companies axing what it will take to get me.

So, no, I'm not threatening anybody, no need to do that, I'll just move on to a company that will keep me and my dog cool in this FLORIDA HEAT!
Jeremyc, thanks for the info, as long as I can "idle" that works for me! Good Luck to you!

Go with an APU company with an inverter if you can. Don't let that be your only reason.

That's just one of the things I would prefer, if possible, that's why I mentioned "I hope USX is listening", of course, like ETCH said, they aren't, but these companies are obviously trying to improve
driver comforts as they offer various incentives like new trucks, sign-on bonus, APU's, Inverters and full benefits and other things to enhance driver recruitment!
For the companies it's a "dog-eat-dog" world out there because apparently there are only so many drivers.

My dog and I are enjoying the a/c while getting loaded right now. Currently 90+ degrees in Plainfield, IN.

The bunk heaters that USX has on the trucks are nice when its cool, but I would love to have a/c without the idling. An APU with an inverter would be nice, but that wasn't a make or break deal for me.
