I had one seizure in my life when I was something like 11 or 12. I am now 43 and have never had any further problems. I have been off of the medication since I was 16 so my question is, since that was so long ago would I need to say that I had one when I was 11? Do they ask that on the physical anywhere?
Thanks.

Seems like they do ask in the form of a checklist where you put a x if you have ever had certain medical conditions.
-
Yes, they do have a checklist that does include seizures. You are given an area to explain. The doctor giving you the physical will probably ask you about it. I doubt that what you describe will prevent you from passing your physical. I was asked about "involuntary loss of consciousness". I explained "motorcycle accident 5 years ago". It was no problem. I passed the physical.
Whether your situation is a problem will depend on your circumstances.Last edited: Jun 11, 2012

Electronic records don't go that far back.

Was the seizure cause ever diagnosed ? Honestly, that far back, no one would know. However, a seizure is serious stuff and I would say tell about it.

You're 43 and if it hasn't caused any problems so far I personally would not list it. However, it does depend if the doctors ever gave you a reason and it sounds like they did if they gave you medication for 5 years. It's your call and I'm sure you know what happens if it is found out. It just comes down to you listing it because they ask or listing it because it might cause a problem. IOW's was it a life long problem?

Since it was so long ago,you don't take meds and haven't had any seizures since I wouldn't say a word. Like I always say "Never Volunteer Information". Better to say too little than too much.

I found the regulation that governs what you had. It's listed in FMCSR §391.41. It's part of the regulations that the doctor must go by when certifying you to drive. You need to talk with the doctor about the seizure but the requirement says if you've only had 1 seizure and you're off any antiseizure medication then you have to wait 5 years from the seizure and you can drive.
It specifically addresses your problem so use the system for your advantage. -
I wouldn't say anything since it was that far back. It's nothing that I would volunteer neither. So don't stress about it and just forget about it.
