Any one out there ever worked for Arnold Brothers and had concerns about trailer maintenance? Apparently some guys have left. Issues of trailers rarely being greased or having regular maintenance checks. An employee in Winnipeg told one guy that "it was the first time he had seen a trailer in 19 months" when the guy brought a chassis in from the west coast. Cousin is not happy to hear that some of the heavy stuff going over the mountains could place the drivers and public at risk. He has a buddy on this haul. There is no scheduled maintenance in Calgary for those container trailers-the one that had not had a maintenance check in 19 months was just checked because it happened to be sent to Winnipeg with a load. His buddy is thinking of moving on-if you complain about the safety and maintenance of the trailers, you get the typical trucking company response and become "public enemy number one" and they "bad mouth" you. If my cousin's buddy moves on, which looks likely, cousin will go too. Wouldn't want to work for a company that says one thing regarding safety and then neglects equipment, placing employees and public at risk especially on the Trans Canada highway during the high tourist traffic season. Anyway, anyone heard anything?

I never had a issue in the time I was there, but that was 4 years ago. Haven't heard of anything from the guys there I still talk to either. Used to be most of the maintenance of the chassis's was done in Langley, the chassis's don't regularly get out to Winnipeg there was never steady runs out there much not surprised the Winnipeg shop hasn't seen it in awhile. Be easy enough for me to find out whats up I'll ask a few of the guys tomorrow about it. When I was in Langley I always called in trailers that needed to looked at or needed service and never got attitude or bad mouthed.

Did they have a shop or something that checked the trailers on a regular basis or was it just when something went wrong the trailer went somewhere to get fixed. Some companies have a maintenance schedule where they book a particular chassis or trailer in for a look-over to trouble shoot anything that might appear to be on the way to becoming an issue. Seems to me a regular rotating schedule of "look-overs" would be the way to go to prevent major repairs or headaches farther down the road? Cousin says that there is one particular person whose management style is really abrasive and a couple of guys got fed up with that and left. Anyhow, cousin and his buddy have a line on what looks to be a good deal with another company.

Yeh it was scheduled, I used to check trailers every morning to see when they were due for service. When due they went right over to a shop in Port Kells, same was done in Calgary. Since I left the yard moved to Annis Island in Delta so I don't know which shop they use now.

Nope, no shop on Annacis. Cousin says they use Manitoulin's old yard.

Yeh they use there old yard ABT hasn't had its own shop in BC for about 10 years now, they use a shop on Annacis from time to time, but work mainly gets done in Port Kells still. I do hear the dispatcher is pretty abrasive though.

Cousin says a lot of the trailers coming west with containers look like they haven't been greased in years.

Guess a few people have been unhappy with the way the upkeep of the container trailers has been downgraded or eliminated. An old school friend in Revelstoke told me that some folks have complained to the RCMP about the condition of some of the container trailers that are passing through, and Arnold Brothers was one of the names mentioned. So maybe more roadside checks and intense looks at the scales ahead for the container pork haulers.
