It gets easier. Skype, facetime, email all make things way easier (and harder) than they did many years ago. (Harder cuz now you can see what you are missing and that can hurt.)

just realize most of the time to make what you make in trucking you will work two jobs so your time off will be spent sleeping ....when you get better at this you will be able to take more time off at home than if you were home so just make that time count and remind yourself and her that you are doing this for them....sucks to be home when you can;t better your situation in my opinion....and in time both of you will adjust my wife hated this six years ago now .....after a few days she is like when are you gonna leave you are getting on my nerves

Also remember, when you get more experience you can start looking for local work. Heck, start looking now.

Good Advice MP. While on down time look on line for local jobs in your area. You can do this in your local paper or even on Craigs List in the Transport section. Most local companies want at least 1 year OTR but some will hire at 6 months. Stay focused on why your doing this and that soon you will be home regularly and the time will fly by. There are alot of local and or dedicated companies out in CA. looking for good drivers.
    Good Luck and God speed.

The best is stay focused on the end goal, communicate with your wife and family. Even after years of being deployed for months at a time and traveling the world in the Air Force missing the home and family is the toughest. Communicate as often as possible and keep it positive. For me just hearing their voices and reading the text keep me in a good mood knowing it is only few more weeks/days until we are back together again. Above all make the time you are together the best you can and hang on to those memories while you are away.

Please also encourage HER to seek strength. I know many drivers (this one included) that have focused too much on themselves and being "gone", that the one at home suffers. It's difficult, and takes adjustments from both sides.

    Good luck to you both!
