I think it's BS to rat on a guy for drinking until 2am. If there were other issues, might have been an easy way to get rid of him. But, going out a few nights shouldn't be a big deal. Hope your brother realizes he is going to work in the patch, right?
Unless your bulk hauling I wouldnt call driving a "skill" that's required. Get to site shiny side up. %10 of your time on duty might be driving.

If you're already coming back to the motel drunk at 2am during green hand school, what do you think is going to happen when on rotation working max hours, out in remote areas? They have proved they don't deserve to be there. I have no sympathy whatsoever for drunks. Casual drinks like 1 or 2 with your meal is one thing, coming back sloshed is another.
A little word of caution, they will do a D&A test again when you least expect it. -
I'm with Boomtruckin' on this issue. Green hand skool is a time to buckle down and learn as much as you can. If you can't keep from getting drunk until at least the weekend you have a problem and shouldn`t be there. You're there to learn the job and set yourself up for a future career. It doesn't matter whether its a low tech job or med school. Suck it up and learn what you can. Prove you`re a good employee. Your future depends on it. The other thing the guy did was bring his drunk self into the room at 2am where his roommate was sleeping and cause a ruckus. Get rid of him, make an example of him and in the process create the right culture within the workplace......if an employer doesn`t draw a firm line things can get out of hand very quickly. .... and perhaps more importantly for the offender, teach him a lesson in maturity that he can take with him that will serve him well when he applies for his next job.oilfield Thanks this. -
You know, you guys are right. It was green hand school and his behavior now is really the only indication of what he will act like in the future. It's naive to think you won't come across this same situation when you get out of orientation. For any company.

For any company in any industry. Guys like that are everywhere, not just the patch. I don't have a problem with the guy going out. I do have a problem with the guy messing with his co-workers sleep time. There is not enough time to get sleep for most workers in the patch, that time is golden. To take it away from another worker is not acceptable and will leave them in a state that could cause them to make a dangerous mistake.

A little detail called "fit to work" by oilfield standards that is. 03 or. 04 anyone that thinks you can drink til 2 and be fit at 6 or 8 or even 10 will not be working with me for very long. As a supervisor if I suspect you "may" be impaired by any drug or illness, and I still allow you to work in any safety position, I can be held legally liable for ANY injuries or deaths you may cause. NOT GONNA HAPPEN. If it ever happens again I will call it in to the RCMP anonymously as an impaired driver and let the law take care of the fool

I thought this guy was attending classes. He was driving the next day??
-
Very well said Nitrogen. I'd work for a supervisor with your attitude any day.rainyday lover and bobbyt Thank this.
-
I couldn't care less if he is driving or in class. Half drunk isn't acceptable to me. He may not hurt anyone in class, but what he doesn't learn may kill someone on the job. The attitude that reporting on duty hungover does not bode well for general safety. The guy he kills may also be ME

Theres no such thing as half drunk. Either you are or aren't. when you go out drinking till 2am and disturb other people when you come in, then there is no doubt. YOUR DRUNK. hope they fire his butt, we don't need that type of person around us.
