good grief.....what a bunch of negative Nancy's.
Actually, what you can do is tell your insurance agent about your circumstances and they will give you a better deal based on mileage. Much like the Armageddon group above, I think you still need to keep insurance, but you can do it at a better rate.

In Florida you can't have a registration without insurance. When you drop your insurance and don't show proof of any new insurance they suspend your license. The only way around this is that your company will be insuring you as a driver but you need to make sure there are no gaps of insurance when you do so. Otherwise they will suspend you and the next time you go through a scale I'm sure the DOT will let you know! Why don't you just get rid of your car all together and just rent one when you do get home if you don't want to pay insurance.
Dipschitt, DragonTamerBrat, Gizmo_Man and 1 other person Thank this. -

don't know about your state, but in pa you need at least liability.if you don't have it for 30 days,it's a 90 day suspension of registration.

There's insurance for motorcycles in snowy areas that aren't ridden and parked for 6 months out of the year, as well as insurance for classic cars that are only driven on Sundays. Get in your insurance guy's ear and get that reduced rate.

I second the suggestion about talking to your insurance company, just say you only drive, say 1500 miles a year due to your job. With liability only, you can get it for probably 30-40 a month provided you have a good driving record. A paid off 2003 Ford Focus doesn't really need full coverage. AFAIK, nobody steals them and there are enough of them out there that you could get body parts cheaply to fix it yourself if somebody dings a fender and runs aw
FWIW, I have renters and full coverage on 2 vehicles and pay something around $160 a month. But then, I do have "members only" insurance (USAA). -
I LIVE IN a snowy area, and i have HAD motorcycles and I HAD TO HAVE coverage all year long.
maybe "years ago" you are remembering this from, but not as far back as 1996 when i got my first motorcycle. -
In the wonderful state of Florida, though we have no snow, you do not have to even have insurance for a motorcycle. I guess they figure 99-100 crashes pretty much result in death anyways so why be insured?! No helmet law either.
The only time you have to have insurance on a motorcycle is if you have a bank loan or lien on it. This way when you do die the bank will still get paid! -
If the accident were to strike a pedestrian who crossed their path and he is now screwed?
What an ignorant state.DragonTamerBrat and Gizmo_Man Thank this. -
I agree! Also Florida has no vehicle inspections either. You should see some of the rolling piles or scrap that roll down the interstate! I also find it strange that we have a seat belt law and no helmet law. Bet those bikers all wear condoms to a ##### house but no helmet on their head on the way there!
