ok hypothetically; you are coming out of the Eisenhower tunnel on I-70 west bound, there is 2-4" of packed snow and it's snowing HARD, you've had to throw iron (put on chains), you are hauling 44,000 lbs of dog food.

what is a safe speed for these conditions?
might you wait out the storm and let the plows catch up?

ok next scenario; same conditions your hauling 10,000 lbs of aluminium ladders, what do you do different?

I've been on this stretch of road twice so far this year the second time it was a little wet, what's it like in the dead of winter?

You talking about the Loveland Loop--that you only need to take if hauling Hazmat over trailers over 13'6"......

BTW, used to drive that Loop up to Loveland Basin Ski resort with my 4'wheel SUV when I went skiiing-----I would never take it in the winter in a big truck!!!

If just driving I-70 in that area with couple if inches of snow, just slow it down and no quick turns/moves...no jakes and light on the brakes when needed. Good practice no matter what the load---if MT, dont drive it!!:biggrin_25513:

Safest speed??? Total stop. Sorry, just my 2 cents. I hate Loveland Pass, and have only driven it once, and that was in the middle of the summer.
