Sorry, gotta have a passport, BOL, DL, urine sample, stool sample............
OK, maybe not the last 2. -
Plus, your equipment needs to be in good condition as they have inspection stations along the major highways.
And depending on where you cross it will cost some cash to get in and out. I always crossed at Port Huron and it was about $65 total for in and out.
EDIT: Do NOT kid around at all with the Canadian Customs guys. They have ZERO sense of humor. -
Are you commercial or do you own the items?
If commercial, then you will need paperwork. -
You will need a passport to get back to the USA and there is also a charge which is normally $10 or so. Not sure of bridge tolls as I have EZPass. Technically your speed needs to be governed at 63 or 100 km though I have never had anyone check that at the inspection stations. I go into Canada about every two weeks. Just got back from Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. I always get a pre-approved pass from the the Dept of Homeland Security which has my name, the load number, truck and trailer number and license plate number. With this, I can normally pass through the port of entry in about 30 seconds.

Yeah, I just came from Canada back to the states (airline). U.S. citizens entering Canada need a passport and the same when returning to the states, however, I'm a Canadian citizen living in the states with a valid "green card"and no passport and I can enter Canada and return to the states with just this "green card". Actually, I can travel anywhere with-in the western hemisphere on a green card.

Its not our equipment. I dont have a passport so I guess I can cross that off.

Yep your gonna need a passport to cross into Canada and get back into the states, the other big thing i would look into since it's a personal load is the customs paperwork because i really dont think they will let you across if you say ya i just got a friends furniture in the back(or what ever it maybe) will send up some red flags smuggling terrorist god knows, either way since you don't cross very often be prepared to be searched
I cross back an forth once a week i think the no sense of humor is on both sides of the border occasionaly you'll get someone you can joke with i think its part act to scare you into answering there questions truthfully or its cause they're bored with there job, cause if you have to go inside those guys are usually alot happier -
Back when I used to cross into Canada, I found the Canadian Customs officers to be quite friendly and helpful. OTOH, I once had a US Customs agent practically throw my paperwork back at me.

I was searched once by Canada.
Many times by the states.
Made one really upset with me in the states. Seems I did not remember the address of where I lived when I was born. He did not like the comment of the Hospital.
He stripped my truck and threw everything around and outside.
