Just about all of the fresh meat loads have a 10 hr break built into the appt. the best thing to do is call the shipper to see if the load is preloaded or if they're waiting on your trailer. If its a preload facility and they don't need your trailer just stay at a truckstop till your load is ready to roll. Usually as long as you have it picked up by the drop dead time you'll be fine. It took me sitting at Smithfield in nc for 19 hrs to learn my lesson.

I've hauled plenty of meat loads and never gone past the 10 HR break. I knew it could happen, but this was a first. Security said that wait time was pretty normal for there. I'm sure it was the USDA that caused the wait. My DM is pretty good about getting me paid. We have an understanding. I work, I get paid. I sit for shippers or receivers I get paid. I don't get paid, I'm done.

I try to do everything that is asked of me within reason.

And I never wait at meat plants for loads. I check in, get their number, give them mine and head to the nearest t/s. I couldn't even imagine sitting in their dirt lot for 40+ hrs.

Have dispatch send you location codes for customers near you. Do a mac27, get there phone numbers and call to see if they have any mt's. If your picking up a preloaded trl on your next load ask if you can bobtail. Sucks when that happens.

Pretty standard for the meat loads. A few of them make you check in first before they even start your 10hrs. Its a mandatory 10hr break by the meat company. Used to be a pretty good Truck stop there in Dodge City and I think they got their steaks straight from across the street! Hands down was the best cut I had ever had at a truck stop! We actually looked forward to going to that plant just so we could get a good steak! If I remember right, they had pretty decent showers and such there too. Hell, probably a Pilot by now with a Wendy's!

One 8 - 10 hr live unload will change your mind. Where are they sending you to drop with no mt's? I'm surprised they're not making you wait til the trailer is mt. Must be a bigger account like Hersey's or nestles.

Question about the rider policy. I have been looking over the paper work and it appears that there are two forms, one says the rider will not sue Central or the driver, the other is an insurance policy. The insurance policy states no pregnat women or riders under 10 years old. My question is if I get my own insurance policy (I'm investigating other insurance options) and the allow over 5 years old, can I then take my 8 year old daughter on a summer trip?
