Well my wife and I are looking for a good trucking company but also one that can either train us together OTR or one that can find her a woman trainer. Any ideas on what company could help us out in this area? My wife is very particular about this issue and I really want to help her out!

    Thanks!

    Hello,

My wife and I are on the same boat, I called Werner and they will guarantee a female trainer. Other companies I called said they will try. But I know a few people who were able to get female trainers but they had to wait a little longer.

Crete also say they only send women out with women trainers. But, here in Texas, the best they can do is a two month wait...

I had a fantastic male trainer. We are still best friends today.

Well at least we are not alone. Let me know what you guys do and we will do the same. Good luck out there.

I understand your problem but don't you want a trainer that knows how to train? I would have no problem with a female driver as long as we defined certain rules before we start. I'm here to do my job and part of that job would be to pass some of my experience onto the other driver. I believe that the driver under training would reflect my skills later on. I would hope that the trainee is there to learn also. Most are.

But I know that's not how it works. You'll probably end up with a driver that's been driving a whole 6 months and that trainer believes that he should be on first name basis with every waitress at every truck stop. He'll pass on all the bad habits and you'll end up with a bad experience and do all the work.

Here's my idea on driver trainers. Make it another endoresement on the CDL. Include in the testing how you should train different people. Make it a requirement that you can only be a driver trainer if you have 10 years safe operation with a spotless record. Implement a program like the "Smith System" and keep it working. Have a program where the government can come it and check to see if the program is running right. Pay your driver trainers more all the time and lead by example.

This is so true. When I started on the dock I was paired with an experienced dock worker, and I learned INVALUABLE skills.
When I went out on the road with my trainer, who has over 30 years experience as a truck driver, I learned UNBELIEVABLE things, and have gleaned so much from him just with us travelling in the same truck together. I shudder to imagine what I would have learned if I had been trained by some of the inexperienced truck drivers I see out there alone on the roads every day.

Thats just my two cents worth, and maybe we should be more open to learning from a teacher rather than stipulating the physical characteristics of this teacher.:biggrin_25524:

But let's not beat up on this guy's poor wife just because she wants a female trainer. There are plenty of posters on this board, both male and female, who have indicated that they aren't comfortable being teamed up in such close quarters with a total stranger of the opposite sex. And then the forum gets filled up with stories of the trainers from heck, can you blame the poor woman for not wanting to wind up with one of them?

I guess you can try to 'qualify' your trainer; I'm a non-smoker but went out with a 'chimney' with 34 yrs experience! I have also heard of the younger trainers who 'hook up' with there younger female trainees! I learned a lot from my '2nd' trainer (bailed on my younger 1st one!) by picking his brain and just watching him!!:biggrin_25525:

Yes I hear you Leannamarie, and you make a valid point. I guess what I was trying to say is that possibly she would be missing out on the trainer of a lifetime by choosing a woman trainer. Just because the trainer is a woman does not mean she is a nice/clean person NOR a good teacher. We assume that because she is a woman that it will be so...
